Why does hollywood do this?

It's been more than a month but I felt I needed to resuscitate this thread for so, so, so many reasons after this week's episode:

First, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross's "Life on Mars" is perfection.

Second, folk who said, 'this isn't Watchmen'... Well, those posts have aged so very badly. It's built on Moore's world and made it even better, and it very much *is* Watchmen.

Third, who knew that the movie poster in the OP was... ALL... foreshadowing.

Fourth, I assume the folk who were teetering on the edge because of the poster are now jumping right over it, and I'm here for that.

The show is goddamn spectacular.

I have to agree, this is one of the best TV shows to come out this year period! it's up there with the likes of The Boys. The hate for it in this thread from people who haven't seen it no less is astounding.

Yes, I agree the show is good but can they f**king hurry up with the Ozymandias plot. It's feeling real unnecessary at this point.

I really like this series and I'm happy it is not a reboot but a continuity. Subtle changes, or actual more transparency of the past, but they are spot on with the lore.

To really understand the backstory one have to be acquainted with the original works on which this is continued.

Perhaps it's the leftist sjw garbage this show throws at the viewer that's upset the OP. Still have to watch it myself but this is what has been doing the rounds :p

Can't we just make a decent show like Fringe or Marvel Agents of SHIELD that everyone will enjoy. This show had the potential to be good.

BS...I haven't noticed one SJW thing in the show

You're either going to love it or hate judging by the audience reviews on rotten tomatoes - it's all a mix of 5 star and 1 star with very little in between. The critics are loving it apparently.
Might be great, but it's not watchmen from what I hear. How could it be when they've drastically altered major characters?

You heard wrong.

At most they've fully defined a Minutemen character who was kinda vague in the source material. Some folk don't like how they defined him. I do, but that's a whole other discussion.

Jeremy Irons as an older Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias is brilliant and Jean Smart a Laurie Blake/Laurie Juspeczyk/Silk Spectre might be even better...

... It's thirty years on from the movie time-frame so you get Regina King as Angela Abar/Sister Night and Tim Blake Nelson as Wade Tillman/Looking Glass. They're not altered, they're just new Watchmen.

If you've read Watchmen (and I have), the show builds on Moore's world and... you might need to sit down for this... It makes the comic better.

Fair enough then.

So just started it. The villain group is rather disappointing. And I liked the real rorshank in the movie.

I hope it get better than episode one and it isn't just SJW nonsense.

It's okay.
I don't like the actress they chose for the main role though. 'Don't ask me her name. The characters are way too forgettable at the moment'
I know she is not old, but she looks old. Does not fit what the role expects her to be.

Regina King?

Sister Night?

A character who's never existed in the Watchmen universe until now...

Is, somehow, too old?

Yes.
Her face looks old.
She is not a believable character. She is supposed to be intimidating, but she's not. She just looks.... old

Also
She is from Vietnam? What? No Asian actresses about?

I'm about to start this series and will be flying blindly. I see there's many explanation and catchup videos on Youtube.

Will take the shortcut route since there is just too much to watch and so little time.

I think her role fits her. She is supposed to be bit older. She already has a whole history discussed in episode 1 so she can't be 20.

So far the style feels correct, but I'm still to new to judge the storyline.

Just me then.
She doesn't strike me as an intimidating individual even though the writing clearly wants her to be. Her voice also annoys me.

Vietnam is the 51st state in Watchmen... Keep watching the show.

Anybody watching Watchmen should also be reading the PeteyPedia: https://www.hbo.com/peteypedia

It does a wonderful bit of world-building, and strengthens the ties between to original comic and the new. Quite interesting to see how the Watchmen world evolved compared to ours.

And man, this show has the best soundtrack. The Life on Mars cover at the end of the last episode still haunts me.
