Has anyone else felt the same way? I do not have Compiz on on both Linux OS. Curious to know what they did in Linux Mint to make it snappier!

Thanks

Maybe Mint is not as heavy on resources? I have a very "snappy" response time on my Hardy machine.

I've downloaded the iso but just have not had the time to try Mint out... Maybe this weekend... I'm looking forward to checking it out, I got a new laptop which is still running Vista... Needs to be tended to ASAP. :D

it could be dependant on what services each of the distros has running on a default install.

I checked this with the Ubuntu install, actually Mint a few more apps running at boot; So i installed BUM, and unchecked apps like nvidia drivers (I have a intel integrated grahics card); and boot up has also slightly improved.

I have Vista as well---without SP1, it is a biach! (too many lock ups, freezing, and CPU heating up). But after Vista auto installed 400MB of SP1 files using my HSDPA/3G card (please note to turn off auto update), it runs solid!

I choose Linux (Ubuntu flava's) because I can play with the system the way I want to.

Yeah mine is fully updated, etc. However, I had been using Ubuntu Fiesty on my last machine, and I was starting to really enjoy linux. I tried OpenSuse and didn't find it much better than Ubuntu, so I've decided to now try Mint.

Hey, the distributions are all free so I may as well try all of 'em before I settle on one. ;)

Just for interest sake on start up how many memory does your system use after you logged into your desktop?

I also did find Ubuntu 8.04 a bit resource intensive and thus settled for Xubuntu 8.04.

Regards,

I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 and running Skype, Firefox with 4 tabs and my usage is ~450MB. This includes all my services (wifi, etc).
