Once in a lifetime R55,000,000 Powerball jackpot!!! Reply Ball to play 500 tickets & get a share of the winnings. Subscription service . R3/day. Reply out to stop

Typo errors and all in the SMS. My wife and I both got these SMS's.

Why must I pay for an SMS to opt out?

How can MTN allow this?

Not sure what you're asking, If i understand what you are asking, who want to know why you pay to opt out, but if I read this: "Once in a lifetime R55,000,000 Powerball jackpot!!! Reply Ball to play 500 tickets & get a share of the winnings. Subscription service . R3/day. Reply out to stop" it doesnt say you have to pay to opt out? It says its R3/day if you subscribe. Not if you opt out. Have I completely missed your point?

Agreed, I think you have misinterpreted it marco. You must reply "ball" to subscribe, which will cost R3 per day. If you want to stop this R3 per day charge and to opt out of the competition, then reply "out" to stop.

Ok. I get it now. The exclamation marks have been left out.
Thanks

Sneaky.

How many people will delete it without a thought, then complain about the sudden, mysterious charges on their account?

Sneaky indeed, but thats how these communication "giants" con "us" (hopefully not me) everyday.
