Does anyone have any news with regards to why the mweb speed went down something horrible?
I tried doing a speedtest to their own servers - in jhb seeing as that is where I live - I got a ping of over 370ms and the downlaod part of the test failed. Multiple times.

Finally went to MTN server in JHB and the results as per below - this is for a 1meg line. I'm getting a tenth of the advertised speed..

How much data have you used so far? Are you not being throttled? I think just PM MWEB Guy so he can check if you are being throttled or not. If that's not the case, I'm guessing something might be going down with your exchange or DSL Line

Have you tried another ISP. That high ping makes me think it could be exchange issue.

I have used less than 20 gigs this month and only got the subscription last month I think I used about 15gigs last month, according to my mweb account I'm not throttled.

Used to use Telkom, never had any issues. Phoned mweb on the weekend as this problem first raised its head then, they said to reboot router - it did absolutely nothing.

Do yourself a favour and sign up for that free 1gig account from Afrihost.

Test if you still get slow speeds.

Hi GhostSixFour

Please provide me with your MWEB account details & I'll do some checks for you. There is many factors that can bring about slow speeds, which we need to investigate from our side and yours.

What was your tracert results like?

One word: NASPERS

They own Multichoice as well so you do the math.

Because of Mweb's recent draconian attitude and policies customers are leaving them in droves so they'll only have themselves to blame when they're eventually forced to close up shop.

It's sad really if you consider that they were the "free the internet" pioneers in this country a few years back.

As someone said, give Afrihost a try. You don't seem to be using much data, so try one of their capped accounts. I switched 2 months ago and haven't had to call technical support yet.

ROFLOL .... this is not something that happened suddenly ... its been like this for a long long loooooong
time!

aside from afrihost try webafrica might just be surprised at what you get out of them!

You can keep an account open with each of the ISP's - that way you can see whether your line is sucky, or whether your ISP is doing something odd. Trouble is, only one of the ISP's offers a really good deal on test accounts - if you don't mind paying for something you normally don't use, you can try them all.

Well generally, therein lies the problem ;)

FWIW Mweb has always sucked from day 1, from their network-locked dialup modem days, through to today and beyond. Leopard spot syndrome, I reckon.

Not true at all; I've had excellent service from MWEB right up until I cancelled at the end of last month.

Well YMMV of course, but frankly I'd rather not support them.

not a fan of MWEB.

if you want to try something new, try PLUGG (is the 'Internet Solutions' Consumer branch). if you look into the ADSL forum and you look for 'The Janitor' he can get you a trial account.

So far I haven't had any issues with Plugg for the last two years and I'm very happy with the quality of the connection. I have never called support because the connection been 100% all this time.

Never had a problem with MWEB. Got really good service from them for the past year. Don't worry, I'll start trash-talking them the moment things go South.
