Why Edcon may be too big to fail

Even just closing a lot of stores would be negative for the property sector as the market is very sensitive to vacant space.”

That.. but even then arrears can only be floated so long. Personally i think things only gonna get tougher in SA so they will be forced as companies look to balance books.

If the customer experience remains as poor as it is now and has been for some time then I don't see things changing much no matter how many deals they strike. Shopping at any Edcon store for the past 10 years has been rubbish in my experience so I'm not surprised people have begin to avoid them - I certainly have.

Edgars burned their bridges with me years ago. Paying for items was so incredibly painful I eventually gave up. I once got vouchers as a refund and getting them to be used as payment took over 45 minutes. That was the last time I shopped at an edgars I believe as it was just consistently a bad experience at the till, and more often than not a poorer product. I used to get collared formal work shirts from edgars as they were cheaper than woolies but then I bought some at the same time and I could not believe how much faster the Edgars ones faded, frayed on the collar, and looked generally awful when compared to the woolies equivalent that was not all that much more. I think their kiddies clothing has been keeping them alive for the most part but seems even that is fading. No company is immune to going down if they don't get stuff right. It is a private company and if it fails others will come and replace it that are better. Seriously, why even try rescue it as an outsider. Clearly better managed companies are out there if this is the state they are in.

If Jeff Bezos can admit that Amazon will eventually fail, then Edcon is by no means exempt from failure.

If we compare apples to oranges here for a second, look at what happened with Stutterfords(is this the correct spelling?)
