Why everyone doesn't move to IS based ADSL

That ping to google when capped example is useless - before teklom hit 20 000 users, their slow down after capped service was not too bad. It became useless when they hit 50 000 users.

I know they don't provide that any more, but I suspect that IS will suffer the same fate as the numbers of IS users increase.

thanks for the feedback Highflyer_GP - can someone with an uncapped IS account paste pings to google.

Pings to google with uncapped IS (at 17:24) - (but IS is dog slow during the day, so I don't know that this comparison btw uncapped and capped is relevant because of the time of day)

When I first heard about IS offering an additional 27 gigs, i wanted to switch to them completely. Thank God I didnt! The shaping during the day from about 6 or 7 in the morning till about 6PM, is absolutely terrible. The maximum speed I get in the day is 6k/s, on average about 3k/s. Even from their own news servers!

Even when i wasnt capped, international browsing was SLOW. Yes with SAIX u only get 3 gigs, but atleast u get full speed on every single meg - ANY time of the day!

I will only stick with IS for as long as i can manage to squeeze a few gigs out of them at night - once a better offer comes alone (hopefully soon) i will drop IS in a flash.

Let me re-itterate (before Clipse has an MI :D ) IS is UNSHAPED

What you are experiencing is overloading of the network. Shaping is when one specific type of service (such as mail and browsing) is set to perform better than others. This sort of overloading is occuring on all the networks - SAIX included - during peak times so i wouldn't use that as a yard stick for comparison.

I'm currently sitting with one IS and one SAIX account. Provides great redundancy - usually when one networks international goes down then i just switch to the other and i'm up and running again. But things are sure to improve drastically when IS add the 2 new sat links in Feb.

Appart from the occasional redundency benifits - the only other reason i'm keeping my TelkomInternet-SAIX account is to rape them for as much data as i can while they're uncapped... they're not much use for anything else
