Why go for iBurst?

Soo.. if Iburst use the Leased lines from Telkom, why dont we see a price cut when there has been huge price cuts on those leased lines?

they are still damn expensive, but they are close to half the price they used to be when iburst first started right? A5e you shure they even use those, becuase they (and US) should have shurley seen some price cuts by now..

eh? iburst does not rely on the lease lines of telkom... what they do rely on (I'm assuming) is the undersea SAT3 cabling to UK, US which telkom owns and charges an arm and leg for it

I made the assumption that they do use telkoms lines to carry data from say durban to JHB to CT. you know what they say about assumtions.

so how do i-burst get their data between base stations and the major cities?

Wel dont they have their own network? They have a radio network and the basestations which themselves can transmit the data right?

I also didnt reall think that they use Telkom leased lines, it would be way to expensive. However they also dont use the SAT-3 cable, they use sattelites and UUNET and maby some other means, but not the SAT-3 cable as far as I know.

I don't know, that's why i was asking. I quite interested to know. So if anyone else can shed some light on it, that would be great.

They may have a radio network for some of their network but I don't think that it would be used to carry data from say CT to JHB... maybe they do.

yip does look like they go through UUNET. What pings does one get to a US site using the SAT3 cable and what do you get via satellite?

Well hte SAT-3 will be lower latency to the US than sattelite, by quite a bit.
Depends how saturated the sattelite line is I geuss.

Well if you look on thier Network status page on the iBurst site, their are definatley radio networks inside the major Citys.. not shure about between them.

Okay i checjk out their page. they have core networks in CPT and JHB.. then peering links between those two.
Anyone want to explain how this works/ what they use for this?
