Same time, same place ... Northern suburbs of Jhb

Iburst :

Download: 800,105 bps
Upload: 169,200 bps
QOS: 78%
RTT: 52 ms
MaxPause: 210 ms

Sucktech (256kbs):

Download: 188,896 bps
Upload: 27,080 bps
QOS: 65%
RTT: 273 ms
MaxPause: 601 ms

With upload speeds like this Skype is basically unusable. And I am paying R200 more a month than him!

I have driven all over Jhb with a laptop and modem and basically you dont get any better than this ... and no you wont get any info out of the clueless rabbits at the Sucktech warren (aka 'the 'helpdesk'!)

AAaaargh

I heard rabbits multiply quickly- I also heard at SuckTech and WannabeBroadbandSolutions they don't.

Do your self a favour and get an arial from Gres before you use Iburst and don't bother phoning helpdesk!

Also don't forget the smtp problems, ruthless p2p shaping, the incredible C.A.P. tm and Abuser regulations

Dude, you're actually better off with Sentech.
Sentech are not the best, but they're curretly better than iBurst.

Don't say we didn't warn you.

I'd call it swings and roundabouts...

I've use both quite a bit and find the iBurst experience to be more pleasing overall. That said, I've experienced hardly any problems using iBurst, unlike quite a number of users on this forum.

embittered2,

I also did the comparison, and found Sentech to be a lot more reliable and stable compared to WBS and even V3G. I would say stick to what you have.

Well, the 256K sentech has a 20Gb Soft Cap and the iBurst is 3 gig.
Not much of a competition there. Even if the 256K is slower, you get a hell of a lot more bandwidth for R200 a month.

There are people on this forum who will simply NEVER learn ;)
(I can understand that some people may wish to move to ADSL ... but to iBurst?)
Even on the old entry-level 128K package - 10G at R499 a month is going to be hard to beat!

Both of them suck bigtime. I use both. ATM Sentech actually sucks a bit less than iBurst. For instance as soon as I get capped using iBurst my download stops dead. No use trying to phone helpdesk.

Ooh - whoopee doo - actually managed to get 40kbs upload when my SNL briefly went above 14

For me a decent upload speed and response times are more valuable to me than the quantity of bandwidth. SkypeOut is *unusable* with the current upload speeds. While the downlaod speed is fine and you can hear the other party clearly, for the other party there is constant breaking up.

I have used Skype on a couple of occassions both too and from WBS connections and the difference is susbstantial.

I would take ADSL if I could get it but presently I need the mobility and anyway I cant get ADSL at home.

I live outside Irene in Centurion and dont have the option of ADSL or Sentech - so I was forced to go with iBurst.

But.... iBurst has been superb so far, I really can't complain it.

The product is great, but the service (helpdesk) sucks. I guess the same goes for Sentech & Geldbom helpdesks?

So, my advice? Go with a product that works for you!

Good luck!
