To be succinct, some nForce 680i motherboards have SATA issues. Data seems to get corrupted for no reason causing BSODs and corrupted hard drive errors. Obviously there is a reason, but the problem to the end user may seem very sporadic. The problems are severe enough that they can render a new system build useless. Talking to NVIDIA about this, we came up with the answers to a few questions, but no solutions.

Yes, NVIDIA is aware of the 680i issue and has been able to recreate it in their test labs.

Yes, NVIDIA is working to fix this.

Yes, NVIDIA states it is not a hardware issue, but rather a driver issue so we are all hoping for a fix.

Oh dear.

I'm very keen on the NVidia 680 chipset - pretty impressive if it supports 24 USB 2.0 ports...

I hope they can resolve the issues with it!!

At least they are aware of the probs, no need to jump ship as far as I'm concerned.

ATM new Intel Core 2 ftw! I have always been an AMD man but hey I am fickle :D

This problem occurred only on some models of the original Pentium processor. Any Pentium family processor with a clock speed of at least 120 MHz is new enough not to have this bug.

LOL

I have a Nvidia board for my AMD CPU. No problems. Got the ASUS A8N32-SLI DELUXE. Only the onboard sound is not so great, but I'm upgrading that to the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum next month (this month is a bit tight:( )
