Why I hate flash

This ad appears in a web page:

Nothing serious, visually it doesn't bother me in the slightest. What I don't understand is, why the hell does this cause both cores of a 2GHz C2D processor to run at 50%? As soon as I scroll down on the page so that the banner is off page, the CPU usage drop

Dammit, that's the wrong one. I refreshed the page to grab the swf link from the proxy logs (since I can't find it in the page source, and can't be bothered to download and read through every javascript file referenced and work out the relative paths and URLs), and of course it loaded the next image. This one doesn't cause the load.

I'll keep trying until I find it.

I found one. Not exactly the same as the one that prompted my original post, this one only spikes both cores to about 10% - that's 10% of each 2GHz core! WTF?

Weird - safari adblock blocked the site.

I don't have any ad-blocking enabled. Mostly because of my work - I have customers who have websites with ads on.
