I am developing a serious phobia about newish Toyota Double Cabs, and it all started last month when a silver one overtook me in the dirt, after we were both stopped at a Stop and Go section of the road near Mkuze.

All of the 30 or so cars that had to wait 20 minutes whilst we were stopped, behaved very nicely, and when the road was opened, we all pulled offlike gentlemen, kept a decent space between our cars so as not to hurl stones at the car behind us...that is until the incredibly stupid and thoughtless idiot who was driving a fairly new D4D Double cab Toyota decided that he had to show his superiority and pass the lot of us at about 120 km/h... and in the process destroy the windscreen in my Subaru, without any apparent worry in the world!

Yesterday...complete with new windscreen, I reached a Stop and Go on the R 52 (?) near Lichtenburg, and ended up first in the queue, which held us up for 30 minutes.........no problem, I popped in a CD and relaxed, and finally they allowed us through, and we were all going very nicely on a thin strip of tar, when out of the blue ANOTHER silver D4D Double cab driven by yet aniother total idiot came TOWARDS us, as he had obviously decided that only other cars had to stop at the stop and go, and of course he was doing 120 just because he could....so...he had 3 options...hit me head on, stop and pull over like a gentleman or pull on to the thin strip of dirt on the left and stick to 120, whilst showering me with rocks.....................OF COURSE he chose the last course as he is a thoughtless twit with less than half a brain....and yet again I have to replace a windscreen!!!!!!:mad::mad::

BUGGER, BUGGER, BUGGER!!!

STUPID damned Toyota drivers!! I HATE them!!!!:mad::twisted::mad:

and stick to 120
Maybe the accelerator pedal was stuck :p

Not just the Toyota double cabs, Fazda. They don't give way at four-way stops because they know the average sedan or hatchback doesn't stand a chance against them, and it's near impossible to read the traffic when you're stuck behind one.

eish. That sucks. Did you catch his num plate?

Yeah, I hate all the cars w/ a high seating position too. Invariably the drive as far right in the lane as possible, thereby depriving those w/ normal seating positions a chance to see whats ahead. Higher seating positions also cause people to keep less safety distance between cars since they can see the gap better over the bonnet. Plus the headlights also blind people in lower cars.

My brother isn't a double cab driver, but he is a single cab ... the bakkie you mentioned ... driver.

He is the same as you described.

Your stereotype is well founded and is justified.

My brother doesn't need a bakkie. He could have bought a nice BMW/Audi 3/Merc C-class (with much more gear and luxuries) with the money he spent but noooooooooooo! He wants a ****ing bakkie to match his shorts and "kaal-geskeerde-kop". All he needs now are a two-toned shirt, rugby socks and a job as a building contracter ... then he can be the perfect Blue Bull (even though he's a Stormer).

Interesting that you mention the BMW's because that is exactly what I was thinking. These guys are the same as BM Audi and Merc drivers...they are frigging bullies!!

Makes me sick!

I don't really mind them much, their vehicles are too slow to keep up with me so I usually just pass them. Some do have bit of an attitude (as in try to push in front of that 1 extra car with lane mergers or don't want to allow you to pass) but even if they don't want to get out of the way I just pass by going into opposing lane (nothing illegal), worst case they try to accelerate (gets them nowhere). The only 4x4 I've encountered so far that was any match performance wise is the BMW X5/X6. The others must either be slow or driven by incompetent drivers, either way I just avoid 4x4's in general (because I can't see past them properly, which I hate).

The whole rock shooting up thing is a bit hectic tho, that's just bad luck man!

Don't get me started on the X5/X6 Mercedes M, Range Rover etc....they are very often black and have blue lights mounted on their dashboards, and THEN I see RED!

Oi!

I drive both a 4x4 and a Merc and I'm not a bad or inconsiderate driver.... damnit...

I actually find being considerate and all that gets me where I want to go faster than the git who cuts into traffic and drives like a moron.

What a pity I don't meet more 4x4 and Merc drivers like you in my travels...:(

Geez... Mkuze, Lichtenburg... that's a bit of travel there!!!

The other thing that get's me is when guys think they're being courteous and pull over to let you pass but in the process they hit some gravel and it ends up damaging your car!

Death to Toyota Double Cab Drivers!!! (and add Fortuners to that list!)

LOL, I was almost home in Lichtenburg - I had just visited a site on the Botswana border and was finally heading home to KZN, after taking a wrong turn in an effort to miss Joburg, I added 400 k's AND a broken windscreen to my trip. If I had just hit the GPS and gone back via the N4 as I was supposed to, I would never have been on that bloody piece of road in the first place! :o

I travelled it aplenty when I spent 2 years of my life in Zeerust!! It's a long road from there to PE!

I find that hard to believe. Angry bunny in a 4x4 listening to dubious aggressive metal.....

The aggressive metal soothes my shattered nerves :P

I just drive over pedestrians, they don't do quite so much damage to my car...

Thats the problem. A lot of them don't even realize it. Everyone driving a huge car will drive more aggressively than someone in a tiny mini that can get squashed easily. Its a normal human subconscious reaction. Same with the safety distance thing I mentioned above.

Its not that people driving these vehicle are inherently ass holes, but rather that the type of vehicle predisposes one to driving like an ass hole.

Well if that is the case, then it is time certain A Holes lost their licences!!

Well, some people have a legitimate use for bakkies etc so one can't take any drastic action. What would work better imo is if every new vehicle of this type comes with a pamphlet that points out these things. Esp the thing about the viewing angle over the bonnet being higher (thus causing tailgating). Most of these drivers just don't know it but can & will consciously counteract it if they are aware of it.

I drive an audi so i can sit back and cruise in comfort. I admit, i do open it up when the road is free but i try to stay out of peoples way... Dont really do offroading, but when in traffic i am always on the lookout for the dumbass in the 4x4 that can see me in the lane next to him cos he doesnt really want to!!!

Also the lights on those things need to be adjusted lower, head on its the worst thing ever!!!!!

My worst experience with a double cab driver was in Milnerton Traffic Dept parking lot, although I can mention many other incidents, I find it bad for my health to do so:(

I just pulled into a parking spot next to this DC bakkie (think it was a Nissan though). As I was getting my papers together I feel a weird sensation of my car being lifted up on the one side. It took me a second to figure out what the hell was going on. When I looked left, this fool in his DC was busy pushing his bull-bar into my passenger door. Basically after I stopped he decided to reverse out of the parking spot, but started steering waaay too early, forcing the nose of his DC to come round into my passenger door.

So I get out ready to give him a piece of my mind, when he said: "But you are not parked there, there is no car next to me". That just summed it up. Pointless arguing with a brain-dead moron so I just got his detail and reported it at the cop shop. Turned out this guy made a habit of crashing into cars, and he had to pay for damages to my vehicle himself, his insurance company refused to pay further claims.

Since then, I've noted the same "no-one else exists" attitude amongst many 4X4 drivers, but fortunately it's not all of them.

Fazda if you travel those roads often (sound like you do) maybe invest in one of those "riot grids" fitted to your windscreen ;)
