Hey everyone.

This is my first post in this neck of the woods. I'm very much an amateur hobby photographer, but some of the conversations and links in this forum have been very useful.

I have a Canon EOS350D, with the standard kit lens. I've always wanted to get another lens, but at this point finances are tight, but hopefully in this year I can get at least the 75-300mm lens, which I once borrowed to use. (I really like that lens for some reason)

Anyway, down to the point. Today for the first time, I decided to take photos using the RAW format. File size is big but isn't an issue at the moment. The reason I decided to go RAW was because the JPEG files the camera put out was always coming in at 72dpi resolution, which made some photos look a bit weak. Even with settings on JPEG Large Fine, 72dpi was the best.

Using the software that came with the camera, I played around, and could set the dpi depth I wanted. After being exported, the resulting JPEG looked much better than the version that would have come directly out the camera. I lack the terms to explain it, but pictures look more crisp and polished.

Well, that's it lol. I'm just feeling chuffed that I learnt something new. :)

Glad you've decided to start utilising your camera to its full potential but changing the dpi probably had little effect if any.

Unless you're resampling the image you've still got the same number of pixels to play with (3456 x 2304 on the 350D).

This might clear things up a bit better than I can - http://www.dpiphoto.eu/dpi.htm
