I decided to stare at my phone for about almost 2 hours to see when BIS was on and off. I've always guessed around 20% downtime - but here are the figures it was OFF :

19:32 - 19:41 (9 minutes)
19:56 - 20:09 (13 minutes)
20:33 - 20:40 (7 minutes)
21:04 - 21:10 (6 minutes)

Does anyone actually blame for being upset for paying R1,000.00+pm for a non existent service?
All this time it's FULL signal and 3G - with a 128k SIM card.
I had a Bold9700 with 32k SIM cards - but the same issue.

What am I supposed to do? :/
VodacomData - is there any reply to the engineer coming out here?

Dolby R1,000.00+pm for BIS? Is it a typo or am I misunderstanding. I sincerely hope that is your monthly cell bill including BIS not just BIS.

No no - that's everything ;)

4x contracts

... And had another outage from 22.05 to 22.10. Isn't that more crazy?!

Why I moan about Vodacom BIS

And you do moan, that's for sure. No less than 4 threads started on the topic.
My suggestion, do something...
contact Vodacom "higher ups"...not answering you?...
go to head office armed with all your previous correspondence and history and don't leave until you have a face to face with a 'big' boss
Lay a complaint with as many official bodies as you can
Write to the community papers and national papers
Write to your local radio station consumer watch presenters or DJ's to create awareness
Migrate over to another network
Start a twitter account with updates on the poor service
Start a facebook page highlighting your story...

Just do something other than moan again cos that's clearly not working for you :p :D:D:D

I'm making it my point to nag and nag and nag and nag until something gets done ;)

I have emailed and everything required - and had an engineer come to my place to take readings downstairs/upstairs etc. I'm just awaiting the report from him to see how to take it to the next level. Migrating is an option ....

Dolby, can you tell how to monitor the BIS on your cell phone? I'm also on Vodacom. Thanks.

If on 3G and connected to BIS, you get the Blackbery dots inbetween the 3G and the signal indicator (ie http://blackberrysync.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/Captura-al-19-08-2010-20-33-22-400x300.jpg)
If on either EDGE or GPRS, capital letters means you're connected - while small letters means you're not connected.

A longer way around would be to look at your 'status' and it tells you there

Thanks a lot Dolby. Thought the BB dots an indicator of BB Messenger"ON". So with BIS on, will it definitely go through BIS when I use Google Maps?

I'd tend to say so, yes.

If I use an app or protocol that doesn't go through BIS, my BB dots disappear instantly. BUT confirm with other BB guys around here ; mine isn't up enough to experiment fully ....

Out of curiosity how does the service act when you limit the phone to 2G only?

Tried it for the last day and a bit - as I was also curious.

Problem with that is that Vodacom have no EDGE coverage ; only GPRS. This means that *if* pages load, it takes minutes.

Majority of the time I just get timeouts though.
