Since people always seem to just post and bitch and moan when things go wrong, let me take a moment to tell you how great IS accounts actually are.

Sure, they had some problems for the past week, but it was only on HTTP (Web) Traffic.

Now...
  1. SAIX is shaped. IS is unshaped.
  2. P2P crawls on SAIX. I get 52kb/sec on Torrents using IS.
  3. VOIP breaks up and "garbles" on SAIX. IS lags a few milliseconds, but the sound's perfect.
  4. SAIX, hardcap. IS...softcap ftw!
  5. SAIX's news server sucks. IS's rocks...there's what you can do with your local bandwidth.

I'm sure there are lots of other reasons why IS is better than SAIX that I can't think of now.

Oh, and fyi, HTTP seems to be fixed...and it FLIES!

Just a sidenote: Thanks to Clipse for the amazing service.

Hi compl33t, i think you forgot a critical satisfaction point ;-)

IS is not Telkom

w00t :)

The only reason not to get IS is if you are going to be playing on local SGS servers.

I made an executive decision to move off the SAIX network. They have had enough of my money.

Have been using OpenWeb. MrBeep has been an excellent host (he is always cheerful despite the fact that he doesn't seem to get any sleep), and that IS news server has great retention ;-)

There have been a few problems on http, but to be quite honest they are no worse than the crap we had on the SAIX network over the last three months, and SMTP overseas on IS seems a little slower than SAIX.

Haven't tried voip or p2p yet, but will post here again when I have.

In general, I think the service is a little slower due to the latency on the Satelite link, but I think it is worth it, just to give SAIX a a kick in the nuts.

Take a look at this:

Whats the difference from saix accounts (performance, shaping, etc)
SAIX vs IS ::the only difference you may experience is locally, gaming with the IS account during office hours on SGS saix servers. Latency during office hours from IS onto SAIX network is around 100-150ms then after 5pm it goes back to 30-40ms completely usable, same as if you were gaming with a SAIX to SAIX account.

I'm getting 54k/sec (dsl384) on a bittorrent download with a saix account - it's always been like this.

What a waste of time, either way.

Okay, now fire up Shareza or KcEasy...anything other than bittorrent...and we'll talk again. :D

Not if you know what you're doing...you can find ANYTHING on usenet...and with the right software, downloading it is a cinch.

Oh Oh.. I can get 125K/sec on IS via bittorrent via 192K adsl. Guess what Telkom set it to 1mbit on the dslam port.

The point here, your ISP account is not the one giving you more speed than what your paying for, thats Telkom setting the wrong lego blocks on the wrong spot.

Oh Oh.. I never said my ISP account was "giving me more speed". Whether it's downloading at the "proper" speed i.e. +- 39k/sec or at these 512k/sec speeds, it's far from "crawling".

Soft spot for Telkom detected.... (Starcraft ghost nuclear sound effect)

.geek - the point Im trying to make, you for some reason get full speed on saix, where the majority do not get full speed, its been noted month for month on this very forum.

On IS, everyone can get full speed, no funny settings needed etc.

maybe geek lives in a small town where its only him connected to the dslam but i must say i love the IS account but i wish IS could give us a bigger local cap or design a local only uncapped account

Dont worry Italicbold.. SAIX would simply cut back on bandwidth when the network gets smaller ;-)

One thing bothering me if more and more ppl move over to IS saix/telkom will lose a lot of money wont they start charging IS a lot more for bandwidth use and therefore forcing ppl backing to the saix network ?

There is already notions that TELKOM is slowing down the peering link and acusing IS for being the culprit. REading this thread it does not seem to bother IS that much. Come next year Telkom will be very sorry. If SNO and IS competes once local unbundling and other promisses come to fruition TElkom will only be able to fight back with better offerings. The only problem is while TELKOM believes he knows better than you, what you want, they are doomed for failure. Their greedyness also wont help as well as the hatred towards the corporate crook for defrauding, lies and theft of consumer revenue.
