I have been trying to get adsl at my home now from Jan 2010. Before that i was trying since 2008. I keep getting told that there are not enough ports available in my area. Please allow 30 to 40 days..... how many more years must i allow 30 to 40 days???

Would really appreciate a valid response.

Yeah, that i know.... but the problem is i rather have telkom adsl than iburst right now.

i can pm that to you moggie... dont think i have a reference number anymore though... its been that long

they did give that to me... its been so long that i threw it away. I just wanna know why it is so difficult for the to supply asdl where there is a demand for it.... im trying to run a business... and iburst doesnt cut it.

for it was one phone call to order the adsl line and a visit to Telkom Direct and I was sorted. Where do you live?

Hey thanks for the advice guys... I've call them quite often. Use my telephone number as a reference, so they know full well that im waiting for ages. They just keep telling me no progress or updates as yet... wait 30 to 40 days. I tried the telkom direct store in Gateway.... even know the managers first name now.

You are fighting a semi loosing battle SG-Atlantis. I think the reason for your problem is simple, Telkom cannot provide you with a service because they are not keen on spending money to grow their network. It could even be that the pipe leading to your exchange cannot handle more DSL traffic, so by simply providing more ports is not the only solution.

AFAIK they will only provide more capacity to an area if the demand was high enough for that area. They have not learnt that if you have nothing to give, no-one will ask for it.

Why not try getting escalating your request to the Regional Customer Care Manager, some info here: http://www.hellkom.co.za/pages/resolving-a-telkom-dispute.php

I had to wait 6 months for my line and that was more than 5 years ago. All I can say is call and e - mail them every 3 weeks and keep at it.

You are correct regarding low demand vs financial viability in a specific area!

There are no Regional Customer Care Managers any more. Retrenched years ago!!! All done via call centre or email...

That really helps even more that i now have to speak to dumbasses at telkom call centers throughout the country who know absolutely bugger all. I will definitely try the helkom website. THank for that. If anyone has anymore luck please tell me how you managed to do it. would greatly appreciate it.

Phone the national customer care centre... Tel: 012 311 2473

Do not mention that you got the number on MyBroadband!!!

Don't let them palm you off... ask for names, etc!

Its also hard on me to get ADSL, i was told that my number is not even in the roll out plan for the near future.

ouch, that's gotto hurt.

I've always been best served by going to a Telkom Direct Shop (or whatever it's called). Most of the time the staff there know what type of obstacles you face when dealing with the call centres, so they generally try to help as much as possible.
