Granted many of them were terribly maintained - but why the rock bottom retail value?

Geez fazda, at Alfa now? You're the Taylor Swift of car dealerships...

Absolutely, plus if you can show me a 20 year old car that is not rock bottom value, that isn't a supercar, then I will be most surprised!
Conquest RSI Twincam, Civic V-tec, Golf 2 GTI, BMW 325IS, and a bunch of others.

I think it's more of a supply/demand thing. Nobody wants it, so it's value drops...

You can get any of those for under 60k, most for under 35k.

Seems to be +- the same region as the MX6? depending on condition

+1

There are cars in this generation that are more expensive (popularity)

Wondering why the mx6 was left behind - this thread does address some of the reasons :P

Relative to their original list prices, they've held their value extremely well. That can't be said for the MX-6...

:D

Always wanted a Alfa GT :( Just been put off by the rumors of reliability

Reliability problems and Alfas are very much a thing of the past.

Speak to anyone who has a new one, and you will find that they have become boringly reliable! :p

Old, slow, fugly and very heavy on petrol.

Buy one you'll have a whale of a time!

I've had one for quite a while and still loving it. Proven to be very reliable over the years, and have no intention of selling it. I get good millage when driving conservatively, but when you start playing, it does get thirsty. Most MX6 owners I've spoken with loved theirs. It's an underrated car in my opinion and others I've spoken with.
Rule of thumb, if it looks clean and will looked after, it will be fine and you will pay for it, if it's cheap, it will look cheap and you are likely to have problems. I'd recommend you buy one, but first have a mechanic check it or have it AA tested first.
Last word on this, I bought mine 2nd hand and I can still sell it today for more than what I paid for it which I must admit I'm chuffed about :)
