Why is WeChat advertising so aggressively?

How do they make money? There is no advertising on the app.
Whatsapp doesn't advertise.
 
Go to contacts and look under subscription accounts.

That is how they are making money, besides other channels.
 
WeChat is trying to muscle out Whatsapp
and they are able to do so aggressive advertizing because they have deep pockets backing them:

the approach is pretty clear muscle out other messenger software and dominate such as to make "official" channels very high priced service that companies cannot afford not to have

unfortunately BB is not playing the game nicely
 
WeChat is Naspers and most of the media we consume is owned by them.
 
Owned by tencent, biggest internet provider in china. Naspers big shareholder of tencent.
 
It's crap, and the crapper something is, the more money you have to spend on advertising it.
