Why is .za listed as rfc-ignorant

If you check any .za domain for rfc compliance, it comes back as rfc ignorant - you can test at rfc-ignorant.org BTW. This, according to the listing entry, is because of a WHOIS server problem with the .za zone.

Does anyone know why this listing has not been defended since 2005?

.ru I could understand. I'm surprised the Aussies put up with .au being listed.

The thing that gets me is what's the use of having this rfc protocol if so many zone registrars don't stick to it?
You just expect better from the "guardians of our internet zone" as it were.

The contact details (as known) are listed here. The same crowd as org.za by the looks of things.

That same page lists their gripe - lack of a WHOIS server on the zone.
I feel it's petty, although that said anyone who has worked with .com, .biz etc. domain registrations knows that the way we have to do it here is pretty low tech and primitive.

Still, it's like the bureaucracy is more important than the purpose.

who is encharge of the ZA domain ?

The .za zone used to be managed by a gentleman at one of the universities. He did this for many years as a service to the ZA internet industry as it was getting on its feet.

The management of the zone has now been passed onto the zaDNA which is an organization which is essentially under the government. The building of the legal structures around this organization are not yet complete and it will be a while before things like a whois get looked at.
