Why its time to ditch the SIM card

yeah and just trash millions of legacy phones people still use. Not every one of us replaces our phones every 1-2 years.

Imagine eliminating SIM-swap frauds - now the baddies need only enter your code, and voila! they have your number active on their device. Imagine the nightmare.

I must admit that I find the article a little idiotic.

In a world were passwords that humans can practically remember are no longer enough to stop brute force attacks it seems silly to weaken the subscriber credentials like this. Even though SIM cards have security flaws they essentially provide a kind of two factor auth. Perhaps using a more modern two factor auth mechanism is actually what's needed - a multipurpose smartcard in your phone rather just the phone identity.

Agree. What's needed is more honesty. SIM Swap fraud is not so common in the West or even East Asia. How many cases of sim swap fraud have you heard of in Japan or Korea? In fact they have sim free phones there too. More tech won't solve this. Society has to care more about morality. Unless that happens, tech will just be a stop gap measure.
