Why Minister Mbalula's 2021 Easter road safety statistics could be improbable

Like I said before, banning alcohol will not prevent vehicle accidents. In fact, it won't even bring the numbers down compared to previous years.

It does not prevent all accidents, but it surely lowers their occurrence (this is like thinking masks stops corona, not just reduce and slow down the spread). Whenever there is a lockdown alcohol ban, the PTA East emergency whatsapp group I am on is much quieter in regards to accidents, and usually the day it opens there is at least one serious one.
 
Article says the data is preliminary and any commentary on it is useless until verified.

Also the government and AA have different numbers

No heart attacks, asthma attacks, seizures, epileptic fits, slips, trips, falls, suicide attempts, stroke or any other non alcohol related incident either?

You actually believed that picture of the empty unit and the government propaganda? Someone familiar with the places stated it was a pic of the resuscitation unit that had been closed for sanitising, not the trauma unit.

You didn't notice how fast that little piece of propaganda was dropped and disappeared once people started questioning it?

Let me put it this way: They had no trauma cases according to the people manning that unit. Other hospitals also reported fewer trauma cases for that period of the year. If it's propaganda, then I guess they briefed everyone well because someone I speak to regularly also reported unusually fewer cases at their hospital. He joking said he wished the ban was permanent.

That photo of an empty trauma unit was actually a photo of the resuscitation unit that was sanitised and thus not in use. The trauma unit was in use. This fraud was exposed by medical personnel and the media quickly dropped the story when they were caught out spreading propaganda.

There were fewer cases. Causes unknown as there is no empirical evidence of it being alcohol related. It could have been due to the lockdown curfew.

It was the resuscitation ward indeed and on a normal new years eve it would be packed.

This sanitising story is incorrect thought, or there would not be seemingly non-critical 1 or 2 persons on the beds, that are visible in the pictures.

I'm sure that most security personnel and ambulance personnel will tell that a whole lot of their work involve people who consumed alcohol.

The pictures of the people on beds were in Victoria Hospital Cape Town which was also a lesser known claim to the deserted wards on NY eve. The Bara resus unit was closed for sanitising. Both stories were dropped very quickly after being questioned and a medical person confirmed it was the Bara resus and not the trauma unit as claimed.

Correct. But this was under lockdown and curfew. So there would be little of that.

I think it was in comparison to other years. Apparently you'd think the area is a warzone judging by injuring that are brought in.

When I was in the military I was medically trained as a certain number of members of the unit had to be medically trained over and above their function. After passing the course exams we were sent to the Tygerberg Trauma Unit which is right next to the Cape Ganglands for practical training. Friday and weekend nights compulsory. It was like a war zone with stabbings and shootings. Community service sentenced persons permanently mopping up blood.
 
People who claim alcohol has no impact on trauma should be forced to work in state hospitals in Cpt on weekend (fri-sat, esp end of month) evenings.
