Why Norton Internet Security So Utterly Sucks

I just removed Norton Antivirus 2006 from someones 1.5GHz Celeron-M, 256MB RAM laptop, and he was so happy it was faster. Now he is on AVG...

I had Norton Systemworks (excl. AV) on my pc and since i took it off my bootup time has more than halved. It did however include a clean install of XP which was about 5 months old.

I removed my Norton recently, mainly because it was a complete resource hog. Norton doesn'te remove worms, IT IS ONE!!!!!!

the same reason y i moved to bitdefender..........norton sucks

Norton really sucks. I cannot imagine why it is still this popular. Even my mother has figured out all by her own that Norton slows down her machine and properly protect her PC.

AVG is nowhere near the top of the list, but it's a damn site better than Norton.

I too found Norton's nasty i terms of rescources. Use AVG now.

The reason for it being popular is that the masses out there don't know too much about PC's and they buy the brand that they have "heard" of. Lots of people won't know the difference between a pc with or without norton.

Hey, That could be a new benchmark, % slow down on PC after installation. :D

Norton has been rated the WORST av and firewall on the market. only an idiot runs it.

Hey guys, I wonder what you thinks of Avast! antivirus, I also dumped norton, and now use Avast! for security, and Windows's firewall. It works fine for me, I just dont know now how reliable it is.

I didnt find Avast to have the most user friendly interface when I downloaded and tried to use it in February. AVG was much simpler...

I agree with supersunbird. Avast gives more or less the same protection as AVG does, but the interface isn't user-friendly. I removed it from my PC a while ago, wasn't happy with the way it operates.

Well yes and no. Bit Defender 10 (latest one) you have to pay for but BD 8 (full version) is free.

BitDefender 8 Pro and BitDefender Standard was never free. There was a BitDefender 8 Free Edition, which was an on-demand scanner only - live scanning was disabled in this version.

That said, BitDefender is cheaper than Norton and it kicks both Norton and AVG ass.

well since ive had AVG running ive never had a virus

hmmm or is it since i had firefox?

not sure but since running those 2 ive never had a problem

Yes, I believe AVG is a good program. It offers the same protection has the Pro version, and is quite reliable.

Anything Norton is a Fcuckup except their "Ghost" program I use as boot-able. Reason is they think they know more than Microsoft engineers and Always Always alter or fiddle with the Operating system structure or DLL's and never uninstall properly. That's why there is Norton removal tools on the market!

PS AVG free rocks. Use in tandem with Hikack, Xoftspy and wintasks and the threat is nearly gone. Only me is then sometimes the problem P2P and others but could always so far resolve the issues with above!
