What this company is doing is illegal. Simple. It's like slashing the tires of an ilegally parked vehicle. You could SUE and you would WIN. You could easily make up some balloney that it was someone else who installed the software
on your PC or that your trial ran out and you had no time to evaluate it properly, anyhow, even if you were found guilty of piracy your penalty would be a fraction of the damages they'd have to pay you. Idiots.
 
I think that this app is pretty much dead now... nobody is going to touch it with a barge pole.

What did you expect from a 20 year old "developer"?

I liked Artie Macstrawman's take on it.
Lyrics bad enough to make Weird Al proud.

Edit: BTW it will be a bit difficult to claim somebody "just installed" it on your mac. They need your admin password to do that.

Which can be obtained pretty easily - the guy just asked me for it.
You need the password to repair the boot disk, don't you - for instance?
Or maybe the person who installed the app, needed to install other apps
too?
Either way - even if you knowingly installed the software, the publisher's
loss of revenue (cost of registering the app) is gonna be much less
than the gigs of "original" material you created and now need
to be compensated for the loss of... plus there are various
criminal charges the publisher would be facing.

I noticed that some Mac Trial software uses the system date to umm
check for expiration :). Setting the clock back makes it work again....

Why is that? It does ask to enter a pssword and I just press enter - so if some malicious thing tries something I will still get a heads up with the message asking to enter a 'blank' password. I am the only one using the Mac so don't see a major problem unless there is something I am not aware of?
 
There are too many things an administrator (ie sudo root) can do that you dont need for day to day. Its an extra layer of security that imo is well worth the minimal/nonexistant inconvenience.

Having a blank password is just asking for problems - just like leaving the key in the front door when you go to bed. Sure, might be that nobody ever notices it but all it takes is one. ;)

allright, allright - I'll put a password on :) - not very clued up with Unix operating systems so maybe its better.
