Why Open Offices Don’t Work

Open offices are supposed to improve collaboration. Instead, collaboration and productivity suffer, and sick days increase. We can find more effective ways to work.

Open offices are hailed as hubs of collaboration and innovation. They are supposed to bring us together. Tear down the walls, the enthusiasts said, and watch collaboration flourish.

But what did we actually get?

A noise-filled stress and distraction factory where productivity plummets, introvertssuffer, and sensory-sensitive neurodivergent talent is excluded.

I hate it so much.

This morning somebody brought a bluetooth speaker and was playing Christmas carols.

FVCK OFF!

Also spot on with how introverts can be run dry in such an environment. There is only so much inane small talk I can endure before my people battery is empty. Then I have one of those care bear supervisors that gets worried when I am quiet and calls me in for a 1-on-1. ''Is everything okay, thestaggy? You haven't been yourself lately''

It is Friday. I have spent 5-days around 100+ people listening to non-stop talking. I am quite literally physically tired of people.

We work from home but we are supposed to visit offices once in a while and when I do that, it is insane. CIO & other managers keep visiting everyone's desk and then you have to grin and exchange some pleasantries and then they visit everyone around you so you can't really focus because they are chattering away like re.tards.. I have no flip.ping idea what CIO does anyways. He was sacked 3 years ago when one lobby became strong and now he is back when his lobby is strong.

It is all such kak. Just let me have my small cubicle please, in the event we return to office one day.
 
These cvnts that decide on these changes are purely on a mission to create their importance and save their jobs.

Just wait till the "New Way" hits your workplace as it has other major world wide business's

It's called a "working Neighbourhood"

And every hour you must pick up your stuff and move to a new desk................I kid you not.

Crazy the crap people can think of. Like in their mind is so full of fairies they can't think like a normal person.

Also went through team building crap at work forcing you to smile and act happy. Never more in my life did I want to kill people.
 
I find a middle ground that does work is where teams are blocked/boxed off nicely into their own larger spaces where they can make their own collective and collaborative noise but not disturb others.

We had this in our previous offices and it worked well and then moved to a more open hotdesk type setup post covid and it’s simply not the same.
 
Open offices are the stupidest concept ever. It's noisy, people get distracted and it's not productive.

I'm so glad I work from home with zero interruptions and noise.

And these managers are the ones that want everyone back in the office because of productivity.

When we were still allowed to WFH on Mondays & Fridays, one of our senior managers tried to get monthly online ''coffee dates'' going where team members would get on Teams with a cup of coffee on the last Friday and talk about their month...I wanted to reverse my own birth.

Reminded me of school when the teacher would tell you to stand up and talk about your holiday. I don't care what you got up to and I don't need people at work getting into my personal business.

I admire your patience and tolerance for bs.

I told the Manager in the team building exercise to stfu before I punch his face 3 ways back to the whorehouse he grew up in.
He was going on and on about 'collaboration' and 'empathy' and I lost my moer. Got asked to politely leave the exercise.

I received a Final Written Warning the next day and never got invited for team-building again! (I was gonna quit in a month so I went befok with everyone who deserved it)
