Why our current 'Democracy' does not work.

For a successful democracy you need an informed public which is something we don't have here.

The best argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with an average voter

Winston Churchill

Then again......

It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried.

Thats a question of perspective. The majority probably believe that the white minority are bunch of greedy bigoted retards who are uninformed about the real issues :D

There should be mechanisms in place, if feasible, to distinguish potential laws passed through majority which are reasonable/fair from those which are intolerable to the minority that oppose them.

A compromise democratic system will not result from certain population of the minority regarding the majority as dumb, totally clueless, retards, etc.

Employes get to fire employees because employers PAY for their services. I pay for the government, others do not, why should they have a say in choosing the government which fails to provide me with so many things?

Though its true, democracy is not perfect but it beats everything else.

If only those with money could vote they'd push the laws in directions that would increase wealth transfer to them. They already do this, but it would probably get worse.

If we had a flat tax it would simply be set very high, and those left with little or no money would get government assistance. The existence of social welfare has nothing to do with progressive taxes.

There actually can't be many people who pay no tax.

If you really think people who earn below the tax threshold are getting something for nothing, then swap places with them. Sounds like they have it made.

I'd suggest that people who do earn more than the average citizen do so because they have applied themselves
I'd suggest that you're wrong. Luck and accidents of birth play a significant role.

Yeah the Starship Troopers book was actually a political commentary not a lame shootfest like the Movie.
You must have seen a different movie.

Its true that you not happy with the government and its also fact that there are people who pay for the government and are happy with it.

How stable a country would be if we muted and marginalized people by taking away a right to vote?
