Well if something does not work generally there must be a reason.
Now you need to find out why it is not working. I bought the same game and had no problems.
Do your other games work? Have you reinstalled it?
Have you done anything to try and fix it?

don't get ME started on Steam 
and buying original operating systems and the person on the other side of the phone thinks i'm lying to them. i still buy original disks for businesses now as a necessity, but i don't bother registering them, i just skip right to the cracking

I checked on google a few people got this issue. maybe head over to wherever MW2's official tech forum is and look for solution.

That sounds more like a hardware problem to me than a software one. Any patches released for it yet?

Makes no sense dude, a legit copy of windows takes 5 seconds to register with microsoft.
So i am not sure why you spend more cracking than simply activating online which is far easier but anyhoo.

Same thing happened to me and Left 4 Dead, thought i'd buy the game for a change. The instalation procedure was such a shlep i ended up copying the iso from my friend

If it is new you can take it back and they can supply you with a new key.
Alot of us have MW2 and no issues I run on Win 7 with no issues.
Maybe start looking at your rigs setup maybe something small is conflicting.
It sounds more to me that it might be your Graphics card that does not support the new graphics engine or try getting the new driver for your card.
Nvidia just released the Official Win 7 driver

Acid, what anti virus do u have? i have windows essentials security or what ever its called, and it seems to make my steam log off and on after awhile.:erm:
i have win 7 64bit ultimate.

Still can't get the original GTA4 game to complete its install, so just went and cracked it so I could at least play it.
Had some other games where its just easer to crack it than struggle with all the **** they can give you.

This thread should rather have been titled "Why console is better than PC" and the contents of the first post should have been "On console you know the game will work! With PC you have a high possibility of hardware faults!!

Disclaimer: I love my PC and and my last 6 game purchases have been for my PC, but I've had nights of no sleep to find hardware faults when my games suddenly crash. My 3 consoles have given me a lot less stress (Xbox 360 three red lights of doom problem excluded)

Something that fixes the crashes is going to the video setup and choosing optimal video and sound and then just change your resolution if you have a wide screen.
The just something else, imho its daft to go and buy MW2 just for playing the SP. The MP is where this game's value is found.
Dont get me wrong the SP is simply brilliant...Its like a massive action movie with some thriller elements in...awesome...But MP is something else.

I HATE Steam. Had a similar problem with the Orange box (brand new, sealed). I needed to email a scanned copy of the game before they would activate it.
