Serena Williams criticises Shamil Tarpischev's 'sexist' comments

World number one Serena Williams has criticised Russian Tennis Federation president Shamil Tarpischev for making "sexist, racist and bullying" comments about her and sister Venus.
Tarpischev referred to the Americans as "the Williams brothers" on a chat show.
He was fined £15,500 and given a one-year ban from the women's tour for comments he described as a "joke".
"I thought they were very insensitive and extremely sexist as well as racist at the same time," said Williams.
"I thought they were, in a way, bullying. I just wasn't very happy with his comments. I think a lot of people weren't happy as well."

Shamil Tarpischev said his comments were a "joke"
Tarpischev's comments were condemned by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) and United States Tennis Association (USTA).
WTA chief executive Stacy Allaster said they were "insulting, demeaning and have absolutely no place in our sport".
Tarpischev, who is also an International Olympic Committee member, said in a statement: "I didn't want to offend any athlete with my words. I regret that this joke has garnered so much attention. I don't think this incident deserves so much fuss."

Tarpischev added the Williams sisters are "outstanding athletes" who "personify strength and perseverance".
Serena, 33, has won 18 Grand Slam singles titles, while 34-year-old Venus has won seven.

Is the word "brother" a black thing now, or what?

OK, but what does that incident have to do with this one? Martina Navratilova looks a bit butch to me. Am I a racist for saying that?

The word, "racist", amongst the Williams sisters and their old man is a regular occurrence since 2001 when it comes to remarks and events targeting them. They brand people very easily when it comes to public comments criticising them, they are also largely backed by the American black population. This is actually nothing new in the news.

They're probably trying to say he's only saying those things because they're black. Yes they do complain a fair bit but Russians are an incredibly racist lot and besides no one has ever called any of the mannish white women players mannish. Of the two Williams sisters only Serena looks mannish for her build so they're going to chafe at this in such a white dominated sport.

I don't know why everyone is suddenly up in arms over this common trait among majority of black people to lash out at any person by using "racism" as a means to get out of any corner. Surely some people have even lost their livelihoods (job, life, possessions, etc.) to simple "innocent" remarks like this, just for the "black people juggernaut" to continue on it's path of destruction in modern society.

In short, most of us that are not black should just watch carefully what we say in front of any black person or face being labelled a racist and suffering the accompanying consequences of the term "racist". It makes having them as friends almost next to impossible. Growing up in SA we are taught from an early age to treat black people with kid gloves and not just feel free to express ourselves whenever we are around them, which is all the time when you are out in public. ;)

If the Williams sisters would have any class or EQ, they would have just totally ignored the remark of that Russian guy.
Never heard of this Tarpishev man before any way. So why bother.
The ladies never came across as very erudite, sophisticated characters. Play great tennis, that's for sure.

Of course they aren't. They grew up in Compton - the Cape Flats of Carlifonia.

After the shirtstorm I thought women wanted 'to be treated like men'. Apparently not!

The racist thing nowadays is just a convenient use for blacks wanting instant enhanced victim status.
