Can someone please explain to me who the heck gives those son's of beaches the right to shape ADSL? and why is it done? I dont get it.

We get ADSL shapped, capped, always connected (when they not looking for spares) .... Goshhhhhhhhhh ENOUGH IS ENOUGH ....

Why are we still bothered with Telkom and ICasa? why not demand an explanation from the South African Government? Cant they see the light if things were running the proper way?

Why not write an "open" letter to the President of the country?

Or maybe someone should ask Madiba for his opinion.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH .....

Another marketing ploy to make 2 products out of one and sell the inferior one as the std to the public.
This allows Telkom to overcharge even more for the 'true unshaped product' that should in effect be the standard.
Unshaped ADSL and what Telkom charges for it is their way of robbing you blind in broad daylight.
Greed greed greed.

For the past few months I've been using a SAIX-based account. In December I switched over to IS, which doesn't shape traffic. Although the latency is a bit higher, pages load much faster. Downloads are fast as well.

I was led into believing Telkom didn't shape HTTP, but after experiencing speeds with IS, I no longer believe that. It'll take a lot to get me back to a SAIX account.

The main reason has to with Telkom lowering costs or making a bigger profit, whichever you prefer. At one of the broadband shootouts, the Telkom rep stated that the high priority ports (http, ftp etc) all go through the transparent proxy server, thereby reducing actual international bandwidth usage.

When the connection is not shaped, the assumption is that more bandwidth will be used on other ports, thereby bypassing the proxy server and leading to higher actual international bandwidth usage.

I wonder how big that transparent proxy cache is.. must be HUGE!!1! Also every now and then i notice http/s etc falls over and other protocals work perfectly e.g. telnet/ssh which makes me wonder if teh cache crashes ever now and then

Shaped = Skype/VOIP Sucks = Have to use telephones.

End of story.
