I pay just under R650 a month for a 5 GB package from iBurst.

1. I've been downloading an 80 MB game from Xbox Live since a little before 11 o' clock this morning. As of 15:54, it's at 92% complete. So it about four hours, it's managed to download around 70 MB. Wow, gogogo 1 mbps internets.

2. I've had two random internet disconnections today.

3. YouTube didn't work for 3 days. Then it was fixed. Now it's not working again.

4. I couldn't browse Kotaku.com, a website I need to consult daily for work, for three months because iBurst said it wasn't their problem. Then they realised it was, and fixed it in 30 minutes. Then it stopped working again, and it took over a week to fix it again.

5. I haven't had a bandwidth usage email in two weeks.

6. This wouldn't be such a problem if www.iburst.co.za didn't fail to load half the time I went there to check my bandwidth usage instead.

7. I lost almost 500 MB of a download when my connection failed. For no reason. It just failed.

I have a line fault in my house which Telkom couldn't fix. So ADSL isn't an option. Neotel is. What should I do next?

3G is absolutely not an option whatsoever, because I use my connection to game online.

Hmmmm... is it possible - to take out a neotel contract, cancel it within the first month, pay the penalties, then sign up with neotel again, but this time with a pay-per-month option?

nah, will be too expensive :(

Well you have no adsl coverage due to our competent hellkom, 3gripoff doesn't work due to gaming, You don't want a 24 month contract with neohell, so that is all your options gone, except for ibust Your question answered :D

You should check out the possibility of getting wimax, I have used it before but that was in the brooklyn area, was very happy with it.

As for iBurst.... IT SUCKS A_S_S .... They don't do anything to help, they just tell you its not their fault and put all the blame on either the SAT3 cable (nothing wrong with it atm) or they say YOU have bad reception (when tests show its between 95% and 100%) or they say YOU are doing something wrong... when they eventualy run out of excuses they ask for your info etc. say they gna do something about it... but in the end NOTHING ever happens.

We pay them money and get almost nothing in return.

I play wow frequently and everyday my internet DCs has and has slow speeds with high latency, when I phone in they tell me no one has ever complained about slow speeds, high latency and disconnections, they tell my my phone call does not warrent an investigation or anything of the sort.

I honestly do not know anyone personaly who has been happy with their service.

As for the telkom connection.... WTF are they doing they should fix the ADSL prob there.

It works out to the same thing anyway... you'll pay R80 x months left in contract, and save R80 p.m. on m2m.

Question though - after the 24 months, does it become m2m or does it renew for another 24m?

... if it is the ONLY means to connect to the internet... then stick with it.

... should revert to m2m with ppu activated... I don't know if the new CP regulations will affect this.

Hi Azimuth

Let me answer your questions.

1. We are tracing a possible provisioning issue. Please disconnect, wait ten minutes and reconnect. If it still feels like you are capped do the whole disconnect thing again.

2. Random disconnects can be caused by many things. Weather being very bad, faulty antenna, faulty device, faulty PC settings and sometimes even a Core glitch. If this is a daily thing I recommend an analysis of your signal to see that there is a stable decibel reading.

3. Goole hosts a local video cache in S.A. The BGP routing with third parties sometimes has a wobble and this will occur. We have no control over this but can escalate and push for ETR's.

4. Cannot browse Kotaku.com. This is the most heavily Java scripted page with thousands of lines of code on the first page I have seen in a while. We have excluded the site from the Caching engines but with encapsulated links being changed and the site not having standard headers the cachine engine will kick in because of the new encapsulations. Now the engine will suffer because of the non-standard header.

5. Bandwidth usage reports. As indicated all over the links on this forum, our website and a mail notification we are aware of this and the iBoss upgrade was expected to have its glitches. This was one of them. A call to our contact centre would iron all of this out as they have access to your balances.

Hope this clears it up.

Give me a call should you require further detail.

Thanks

Sure, but you have to appreciate this is extraordinarily annoying and inconvenient, right? Right. I've paid for a service in advance, and I expect that service to work. The occasional fault I can understand, but the service has been consistently **** for two weeks now.

And no, 250 MB of free bandwidth doesn't make up for the hours I've wasted sitting around waiting for my connection to work properly. I was on deadline when my connection went out at 2am this morning. I gave up trying to reconnect after 30 minutes. I'm a freelance journalist - if I can't work, I don't get paid. If I can't get online, I can't work. This is a problem.

3. Goole hosts a local video cache in S.A. The BGP routing with third parties sometimes has a wobble and this will occur. We have no control over this but can escalate and push for ETR's.

Ah, I'd actually noticed the connection request to Google in my status bar. Solves that mystery. :P

I totally understand that this is largely an external issue, but the procedure for resolving issues should be better streamlined.

Again, it's just really inconvenient.

I don't want to be inconvenienced by my internet connection. I want it to work. I should be able to expect it to work. I shouldn't have to prowl a forum about my internet connection. I mean, come on - that's ridiculous, isn't it? :/

3G and iburst not an option ; adsl the only way to and get a good ISP for your adsl like webafrica or axess. you will have your probz on dsl but 3G and iburst there are too many probz compared to dsl:D

Get rid of them dude, iBurp is absolutely useless. I also had random amounts of data go missing and the twits could never explain it!

And for R650 p/m that is just insane!

Dude trust me, Neotel is far worse than iBurst, I borrowed the work's spare iBurst unit, and it was working flawlessly against neotel.

Neotel is actually worse than Telkom, go read on Neotel's forums a bit, and read my posts there (and everyone elses)

There are a handfull of ppl that are happy with them. But the majority is not. I got the neo connect prime unlimited for 6months about, and getting about 40kbs (yes slower than 56k dial up) and nothing has been done about it after logging endless calls, no one returning my calls, nothing. But yet they are very quick to debit my account account for 1k on time, every time, go figure.

Trust me on this. :P

The only reason I'm sticking with iBurst is because of the 64K soft cap. If it wasn't for that I would have been long gone. Sadly, the wireless offerings in SA are very limited. :(
