Why the rand is weak right now

Other emerging markets are doing much better than SA. So, the fact that the world is flocking into the US and Dollar is not the problem. Besides the US markets are busy taking a nosedive. Investors have been fleeing US markets the past year and you can go look at all their markets and see the decline, so the statement is false.

Here is the problem. Investors are fleeing Socialism and Communism. They do not invest in these countries. Governments like the ANC and the Democrats in the US are causing the collapse of their own economies and they are the sole reasons for their own demise.

Personally I think it the current performance of the Bulls that is causing a negative Rand sentiment.

Nah, the bulls and all other stocks are suffering the consequences of the governments' actions. America still stands a chance of recovery as they have a public that can vote for change. South Africa, on the other hand does not have this. Even if SA had the public, it no longer has viable replacements. But, let's wait until 2024 to see what happens in the US. If election fraud persists, it is game over for America too.

Are you a politician in real life

Heading for R18 to the dollar. A few weeks ago was still R17. Not good.

I suspect it may hit R18 within days. Then R21 is the new target it will likely hit before the end of the year.

The R's strong reversal from R17/$ on 2 February, was the exact day the US Dollar (strength) Index reached it's weakest point since April '22. Always a huge correlation. The $ runs the show. The Dollar Index had a strong bounce, which always screws with the Rand and volatile currencies like our's Brazil, Turkey etc, and all risk-on assets.

Bitcoin topped out the same day as the USD turned, as did S&P500. Investment banks and traders are putting their money in USD as a safe haven after the Fed said last week that they need to do more to fight inflation. Nobody invests in risky shitholes like SA when the Fed gets worried.
