 /begin rant: I'm just tired of waiting days/weeks for our stores to get content of new release Case in point - F1 2010. Released today, expected 30 September. Why? Have they not heard of aircraft. I don't care that we aren't a large market, or economically relevant or even noticeable on a small scale map. I just want my bloody game. NOW! /end rant.

And they wonder why people pirate games.

Don't make me hunt you down and beat you to within an inch of your life with a cardboard Icewind Dale box to teach you a lesson.

Never you will never find me I am as slippery as a fish and as deadly as a cat. :p

We talking this kind of cat?

And I will so find you.

Steam is fine in moderation. Steam for srsbsns is teh ick.

I don't actually.

How much does it cost actually to get games on Steam, as opposed to buying a box here?

/contemplates buying something for Copa-san in Steam

It's not available on Steam yet...

Available: 24 September 2010
This game will unlock in approximately 1 day and 21 hours

Besides, F1 games are poo, first person steam train simulators are more exciting.

^^ what you complaining about its 6 day's before its here accourding to the OP.

Depends whether you need to pay for the bandwith per gig or whether you have uncapped.

If you have uncapped its no issue and it depends on the titles. Some work out cheaper , others more expensive. If you have to buy your bandwith per gig , its better to wait for retail copy.

Another advantage of steam a lot of the time they will give you some games for free with another if you preorder. Normal Retailers never ever do that from my experience...

Since getting uncapped I get all my games except the special edition/collectors editions from steam. 95% of my purchase are now from steam.

Need a block of cheese emoticon, really.

This is probably the publisher, Codemasters, and iirc the same thing happened with some other games of theirs, like OF: DR, being a here a few days later than the international release date.

I find that these days we tend to have a pretty good retail supply chain. For example, my copy of Civ V should be arriving shortly, even though the game is only officially released outside of US/Canada tomorrow. I won't be able to play it, since it is through Steam and so locked till tomorrow, but it means I'll have it for the long weekend.

Regarding Steam, for some people, buying through Steam is not really desirable or an option, eg if you have capped or a 384/512, financial considerations aside. But I do find that we tend to get releases a lot quicker than before DD was around. It used to be that a title came out in Europe/US and we'd wait at least a month to get retail copies in most cases, and then we had to hike 3 miles both ways in the snow wearing only cardboard game boxes in order to get those copies.
