WHY us!!!!

Africa..

The reason why telecoms is so sh#t here, is the same reason everything else is(Health, Education..etc) - Goverment. Countries in Africa dont care if they are 30 or 40 years behind the rest of the world, it doesnt matter to them.

Just as long as the fat cats in goverment live comfortably...its all good...and with the goverment owning such a big stake in Telkom, and also being in bed with ICASA, I really dont see things changing quickly.

I think we still have a LONG LONG road ahead of us, before proper broadband is available. Even with the SNO coming...and all these "hearings" and "meetings" (I think they just go there just for the snacks and refreshments..) It wont change anything.

And even if the cash cow die we just blame it on apartheid instead of thinking ahead on how we can fix a problem we just shout apartheid

No, I'm being factual. Fixing the problem *is* abolishing the legislation that is preventing progress - and that legislation was born from apartheid (quick history lesson, it was to controll peoples communication with the rest of the world to curb anti-government revolts etc, which didn't work anyway). This is just coincidental, since the fact that in privatising telecomunications, the new government held its controlling share in Telkom - but for what gains? This can only be pinned on income.

These problems are not Telkom, these problems are government control. The sooner people stop taking it personaly etc, the sooner it can be solved.

@Qooty: very simply, incompetence on the part of all players in the telecomms scenario. I include here even the consumer, with this forum being the first real attempt at activism, and for which RPM deserves justified accolades.

shew!dat was a mouth full.i think one of u guys sud be head of telecomunications in SA coz it seems to me these guys on top just look after themselves and dont care about da rest of us dats making dem rich.i also think the ceo of telkom gets paid too much.they sud take half of his salary evry year and pay us for using their phone lines :) or use it to give us better service.what do u guys think.

and i dont think da minister even knws hw to send a plz call me either.the bloody stupid idiot :) da minister prob has internet access 24/7 and dont hav to pay da phone bills evry month nw telkom expects us to pay it.

. . Lack of accountability.

Poison Ivy fcuks up 8 years in a row and isn't taken to task / fired for it.

She then has the audacity to stand up in public and admits she's a racist b!tch, who actually doesn't give a **** about her job and is just interested in free lunches and comfortable places to sleep.

Why are we seeing action at the moment? Elections are coming up and Padayachee reckons he's got a shot at Ivy's job and needs to make his presence felt. All I can say is I hope he get's it and lives up to lip service.

But hey, maybe I'm just being cynical. She's not the only one, her 'boss' should have his a$$ed kicked for not kicking hers.

What the hell, split the ANC and lets see these leeches have to fight for their jobs!

Competition, that sorted our GSM market, im sure the GSM market compares to the top in the world regarding technology.
