why why why firefox and synaptics dont go together

Can some explain to me what this Virtual Scrolling is? I use Synaptics on Linux and all types of scrolling I used in Windows using FF works for me in Linux using FF.

Virtual scrolling is when you press on the side of the touch pad and scroll up and down, that's all ;) It's like clicking the middle mouse button and moving the mouse up or down.

oh well that works on my HP 530 under both Fedora 9 and Debian in Linux.

Most touchpads on laptops these days either have a little "bar" stripe thingy down the side of the touch pad... or a button below... that you can use to scroll up or down in the active page. You run your finger up or down the stripe and it moves the page up and down as if you had click on the scroll arrows on the side.

ok that thing that tera said...it does not work in firefox.Sorry tera i tried.I retested in ie7/8 and the virtual scrolling works normally.
What really bugs me is why firefox, whats so special that it wont allow this to happen:(

Make sure the FF settings look like this:

dab - what is the users laptop model? is it a recent or old laptop?

tbf, the sidestrip for virtual scrolling works better in linux than it dd in Vista. There were instances in vista where the scrolling would get no traction. Yes I know you are talking about XP. So maybe the problem from that viewpoint is an on going one.

But then I had the issue in Vista with Safari and Chrome. Might have been Ff as well but my Vista had issues with FF3 so it's difficult to say.

teraside - the virtual scroll should work no matter those settings

true milo. Its no biggy i mean i just want to finish this laptop for the customer with firefox.
model is aspire 3002wlci...3 years old i think, the condition of this laptop is amazing,i mean the battery can stil last 2 hours

dab - running XP? (I probably don't know the answer but I hope the questions might pop something in someone elses knowledge inventory)

seems to be working now in firefox.
My fix was using revouninstaller ccleaner and tuneup.I then restarted and used v10 synaptic drivers.
the only problem is that the little bar graph dont show but this is fine.
