This month my 2 year contract has ended and I did not upgrade from my Galaxy S5 because, stuff contracts, and also because it is still a capable phone. For the past 2 years, there was no phone cover and no screen protector as I have the "enjoy it for what it is" mentality such as Casey Neistat. The body of the phone is a bit worn with the silver border chipped and the port flap missing. The main thing that has impressed me is the screen. As you will see from the photos below, this screen is still flawless thanks to the Gorilla Glass 3 protection that is standard on the phone.

As you can see, flawless if not for some slight dust particles. This phone has shared pockets with keys and coins as well as a few drops onto bricks and concrete.

So please, if you have a device with Gorilla Glass or the equivalent, do not waste your money on useless screen protectors that do get scratched and cause ugly air bubbles because they are really not worth it and just ruin the viewing experience.

Don't know about your name brand screen protector. I have a cheap R100 Chinese class one and I drop my phone alot. But u have to get the glass ones.

I don't have a screen protector. I've been using my phone's "bare" screen for the past 2 years. The point is that you don't need one if you have a half decent phone.

Oky cool. I have a cheap older phone.

My Samsung galaxy S2 never had a screen protector and had a nice deep scratch on it, probably from keys. It had gorilla glass 2, I think.

They experts say that Gorilla Glass 5 is more shatter resistant but less scratch resistant, so take this advice at your own risk. I'd be keen to know which is the most scratch resistant Gorilla glass. Remember, it's not scratch proof but resistant. It's like asking why you don't swim with your water resistant phone IMO. You should get away with it most of the time, but your warranty won't cover it.

I've never used screen protectors. They just seem to reduce the sensitivity of the touch.

I have an S7 edge, using it for 3 months now without screen protector. I will admit, im very much worried that it will get scratched

No harm in putting one on. Couple hundred bucks for peace of mind. My screen protectors have been badly scratched in the past when I replaced them.

My S7 has a nice deep scratch on it. This was from dropping it under a table, then dragging it a little with my foot to reach it. Really wish I had got a screen protector

Got scratches on my tablet because I put too much faith in the glass (was the Corning type).

I can understand for scratches, the glass coatings have come a long way. But I use my screen protector for drops - I've dropped my phone before onto something that hit only the screen when it landed and the screen protector (those glass ones) shattered - not my phone's display. So I have faith in them for that.

Also don't believe in screen protectors. Never have.
EDIT: And never had a scratched screen.

Go read my first post on the previous page. Gorilla glass 5 is better crack resistant but not as good scratch resistant. This was confirmed by the manufacturer. It's the one used on the latest Samsungs.
i.e. New is not as good as old. If you didn't scratch your screen in the past, you might in the future.

I don't believe in the plastic type. I'll always have a tempered glass one on my phone though
