I don't think it was meant as an investment with the hope of a financial reward. It's more about improving overall performance on a bang/buck ratio versus another 'investment' like spending that r1200 on more ram or a better CPU. Everyone knows PC hardware depreciates faster than anything else. You're being quite pedantic and missing the point completely.
