So why aren't we using the NFC chips built in to our devices yet? The world is moving on and as is always the case, we are left staring blankly at it. Only a few stores are trialing NFC payments right now.

Which they credit on the card, so it's effectively free.
This was a big balls up in January. I think it was the first Monday after Christmas that they decided to disable a whole batch of cards. The queues to get answers were pretty ridiculous.
People who bought monthly vouchers couldn't use them as they were linked to the now expired cards. I had loaded something like R2000 onto my card a couple of days before it got disabled. Waited a week for a refund.

They did that when I renewed... They did the same for any new card. You pay your R12 and then get R12 worth of credit on the card. If they've changed that, it had to have been recently.

Pointless - you should only need to replace the card when/if it becomes necessary due to failure.

And not be charged for it... AGAIN!
