Why Zuma changed his mind

A number of reports and columns speculate on the reasons why President Jacob Zuma could have been forced to rethink his decision to shuffle the finance ministry.

He changed his mind because his poor management sharply impacted the structural integrity of the gravy train that the ANC relies on to stay in power.

Zuma is only president as long as he can afford to pay to keep the various factions from disintegrating the party.

He screws up all the time, but this one was massive and had an immediate effect. If he didn't change it, he could quite possibly have been removed from office. It's not like there isn't a precedent for it. He set it himself when he muscled Mbeki out of office.
