Hi there! I would like to set up my house for Wi-fi, however I am struggling to figure out what I need and how to boost my signal throughout the house.

At present I have a Desktop (A) that connects to the internet via Ethernet cable through a Billion 400G router. I have a second Desktop (B) that is 9 meters away and currently struggles to get a signal via a Belkin USB Dongle.

2 meters away from Desktop (B) is my lounge and entertainment area, where I would love to use my iPad and laptop. At present the only room that gets reasonable wi-fi access is the room with Desktop (A).

Could someone please advise me on what sort of routers to get, so that my entire house is able to get a strong wi-fi signal, please? I would prefer it if Desktop (A) connected to the internet via Ethernet cable.

Thanks!

What's your budget? If around 1K, then the Ubiquiti Unifi is the best

Try moving the router, and / or changing the angle of the antennae. Place the wifi AP as high as possible away from metal.

I've actually tried re-positioning the Billion 400G antenna and its made no difference so far. A technician at MWEB mentioned something about "Boosters", which I sadly did not understand. Could someone shed some light on this, please?

Agreed, these work really well.

So just to clarify a few points, if I got the Ubiquiti UniFi Enterprise AP - would I be able to connect Desktop (A) to via Ethernet cable?

Would I need to use the Belkin USB dongle for Desktop (B) and lastly will the entire 13m radius receive Wi-fi?

Apologies for all the n00b related questions and thank you all for your help!

Likely a "repeater" of some sorts.
I use (with good effect) a DAP-1360 (D-Link)
Depending on the size of your coverage area, you might want to invest in something stronger though
*edit*
The Ubiquity mentioned is BOSS - I've played with one at our offices before - works nicely and will be my next investment should we require more range / control

These you will connect to your router/switch to create wireless access points, which would enable all devices to connect wirelessly to your network (assuming they all have wireless adapters, obviously). The UniFi's are powered over Ethernet (POE) so all you need is the ethernet cable running to it, so you can place it in the best spot for good wifi coverage.

Desktop A can still be wired by ethernet cable, yes. If you can't run a cable to desktop B then you can use it wirelessly via the Belken adapter.

Place the router in the ceiling and position antenna's.

Basically, will look like this
