Wi-Fi Streaming

I have a Samsung Galaxy S10e phone and recently updated from Android 9 to Android 12 on it.

Another device in the house is a Samsung Galaxy A34 5G, running on Android 13, which gives the same problem as with the S10e, as described below.

I have a Huawei AX3T Wi-Fi router, with a fibre line provided by Vumatel and Axxess as ISP.

Internet upload and download speeds are constantly just over 50 Mbps and Ping just checked as 3.

Since about after I did the Android upgrade about a week ago, certain streaming services (DSTV Stream and some others), will not stream successfully and "buffer" (try to stream) right from the start, after successful login into the service.

This while YouTube streams without any problem.

For both the above streaming attempts (DSTV Stream and YouTube), the phone is placed right next to the router.

Initially the router was set up so that devices will automatically choose between 2.4G and 5G.

I then set the router up so that the 2.4G and 5G bands are selectable separately and then tried streaming after selecting both the bands separately and testing streaming on each individually, but the problem persists on both band selections.

Once I disconnect from the Wi-Fi and make use of mobile data, there is no problem with streaming DSTV Stream or the other services that will not stream on the Wi-Fi connection.

What could be the problem/solution?

The problem sounds like Axxess, try do a trace route

Try using 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 as your DNS and see if it helps.
Also try configuring the router on a different width for the 5Ghz channel - 80 or higher (unlikely the issue if YT steams fine).

Thanks for both advise received, both helped, much appreciate.

Problem was solved by Axxess support, guiding me to de-activate IPv6 on the modum Network settings.

I have no idea about the technicality of it (de-activating IPv6), but it worked.

Interesting, so IPv6 routing on their end must have been a bit iffy then?

YouTube would work fine on IPv6. DSTV doesn't, so seems like something was forcing use of IPv6 over IPv4 and causing trouble.

I turned off IPv6 on my Huawei AX3 too because of similar issues. My TPLink works fine with both enabled.

I have no idea what IPv6 is but thats why I have the ChatGPT so will find out. All I know is that it told me to use some DNSguard address to block ads but I still get ads on Truecaller and elsewhere but Im learning
