Wide angle lens advice

OK so here's my short to medium term lens strategy -

- play around with the kit lens for a while (also have a nifty fifty and a 55-250)
- getting a 17-55 2.8 in a few months time (this will then be my general walk-around lens)
- most likely also a 10-22mm after that - then I'm covered from UW to 250mm
- maybe a wider prime than my current 50 if I'm feeling itchy with cash to burn (there's nothing that really interests me atm)

Frankie, send me a PM when you're back and still interested in selling. BTW have you had any dust and/or IS issues - from what I've read I understand it to be somewhat of a problem with the 17-55.
So much EF-S glass!

I will PM you when I'm back, which will be early Sept 10.

I had some dust behind the front element, which I cleaned, and since then used a UV filter which stopped the dust.

I'd also heard that some of the 17-55's have IS issues, so when I got to the US, I sent it off to Canon for a service and check of the IS - it worked fine before that, and it's still going strong.

These issues also p1ss me off with such an expensive lens, but the IQ makes up for that.

Holding two fairly pricey EF-s lens' has influenced my thoughts on what my next upgrade would be, had thoughts of the 5D, but since the 7D came on the market and I had a play with a colleagues, no more mixed feelings - my EF-s will be with me for some time.

So why go and jeopardise it by throwing a UV filter in front of it? Just because of the dust problem?

BTW - how did you clean the dust out?
