A CRIMINAL complaint has been laid against a Sea Point security company director over allegations he pilfered the pension fund contributions of his security officers.
The security company is contracted by various ratepayers associations operating within Bantry Bay and Sea Point.
The chairperson of a body corporate based in Sea Point, requesting not to be named as yet, said their organisation had become involved after a former chairperson caught wind of the theft a few years ago.
“We only found out about this after one of the guards supplied to our building passed away. His widow, who was due about R85 000, has obviously not received what was due, thanks to this theft by the director.
"The charges include theft and fraud and will be brought against the director over the next few days,” the chairperson said.
He said they had helped the widow in receiving legal assistance as the director had repaid the money into the pension after the humiliation the theft had caused, but it was done after the security guard's death.
“It seems to be an open secret within the area as the money was seemingly used to plug some holes in his company. The ratepayers associations are aware of the situation, but for some odd reason are quite happy to conduct business with this company,” the chairperson said.
He said their body corporate would remain involved and assist the widow until the matter had been brought to a resolution.
They had submitted their own affidavit to the police and informed Mayco member for Social Services and Safety and Security JP Smith to ensure the matter was investigated.
