It will be interesting to see the outcome.
What do you think the reason would be that people would have their browser widths set to something other than the normal default width?
It's not something I have given consideration to before this.

What makes a width default? The only time a browser would use full screen is when maximised. Now, on windows, I recall everything liking to start maximised. But in other OSes this is not the case. In fact, I like to see the other parts of my screen no matter what app I am in.

As I see it, whenever you open an application the default in Windows is to open in full screen. I hate seeing parts of the screen - every app I use is generally in full screen. I would think that this is the case for the average user but I could be mistaken.

As mentioned before, it would definitely be interesting to see those stats as this isn't something I have given any consideration to.

I do think though, and as mentioned previously in this thread, people can easily open to full screen, and generally know how to do that. It's not that they're hindered in some way - rather a choice they make.

Precisely - a default in windows, not everywhere else. And a choice. By making a site say 1280 wide, assuming that folks can go ahead and maximise, you remove the choice. Soooo - my exercise. I am placing a little javascript in each home page that I host and linking it to a php page which will record the page width vs res width and the browser ($_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'] rather than get_browser) but I doubt my sites will enjoy enough impressions for anything more than a pop sample.

I like that - saw it a few days ago. Makes wonderful sense, given the denominators...
