I have a TP-Link TD-W8968 300 Mbps Wireless N USB ADSL2+ Modem Router (Brand New) I have setup my pppoe connections as per my ISP with the correct username and password and Vpi/Vci settings.

I have been experiencing major outages and have been fighting with everybody to try to get any assistance available. Tonight after a beer or two I sat down to try to find anything that may be adding to the problem. I wrote a small script to ping a machine that is hosted with my isp. That way I can tell if the network is up and when it goes down.

When I operate devices connected to the ethernet ports only there is no problem with connectivity (I.e. in my script there may be the occasional failure but I can ping with a 99% success) I run the Ookla's Speed Test as well as the Saix test (from devices connected via ethernet) and no problem.

Here's the wierd part. When I connect a wireless device and run the same speed test (Ookla) the pings are good during the download stage but as soon as the upload starts the line drops (I.e. my pings ALL fail until the router resets its connection this normally takes from 40 - 60 secs, sometimes however it takes much longer) I am unable to run the saix speed test but have tried a different android speed test (SpeedChecker) and i didn't see the same problem (I.e. my pings stayed successful)

Any ideas why the upload portion of the wireless speed test would (or if it could even) bring down my ADSL connection.

My ISP tells me there is a problem on the copper, Telkom haven't even sent a engineer out to test (and I told them I am prepared to pay the call out fee if the problem is on my side)

Any help or pointers in the right (or any direction for that matter) would be much appreciated.

Ciao

I had stability issues with a new Billion router and was able to resolve the issue by installing updated firmware on the router. This was available for download from Billion and involves 'flashing' the router after accessing the 'Administration' tab, then 'Firmware Upgrade' tab of the routers setup interface. TP-Link is a reputable brand and will have a similar feature.

Hope this helps.

Seems like a router problem.... if everything works on wired and fails on wireless that should not be the line try pinging the router on the wireless and see what the results are but for android you will have to get an app. could be something local that is interfering with the local wifi.

Thanks for the heads up guys. This is going to be a real PITA!

I have flashed the router with the latest firmware upgrade. It definitely seems like it is related to the wireless portion because if I turn off the wireless I can connect to the internet with all the ethernet wired devices without issue.

As soon as I turn on the wireless I start experiencing problems. Even before any wireless devices have even connected (I enable wireless and reboot the router) I see the wired connections not able to connect to the internet.

I am going to take the router back and get the vendor to replace it. Wish me luck!

I am having similar type of issues. Router bought in 2008. Either have too many devices connecting or the thing is dying on me.
