Wierd speed test results with IPCop

By the way some more info, I think it is IPCop 1.4.5.

Another question is how do I set the MTU settings of the two NIC's on that box
 
Gimli, you have no doubt got the builtin proxy enabled [probably in transparent mode] - I proved this to be the cause of impossibly high upload test results using Smoothwall's builtin [squid] proxy in transparent mode, you will no doubt see the same thing happening if the same file was tested over & over for download speed - bcos it would be cached by the IPCop proxy. The way TCP/IQ works on the download testing - it has a list of servers & files that it keeps in Resources.txt - and it randomly chooses something in there when doing a download test. The upload test seems to be the same file that gets uploaded each time.

As long as you are aware of this it is a non-issue as you can workaround it for download speed testing or disable the transparent proxy altogether, and configure your browser etc to use the IPCop proxy.
 
Thanks IC, I thought it might be something like that, what I didn't know was that the proxy will cache outgoing stuff as well. You are right that the proxy is setup in transperant mode, but would that make a difference?

Does this mean that, if I have a graphics designer that uploads via ftp a image to a website which is the same size and name (although she changed it), the proxy will upload the old file?

some cache managers make hashes or checksums of the files so only if the contents are identical it will use the cached version
