WiFi 6 and Samsung devices

I've got a WiFi 6 system at home, with 5Ghz 160Mhz enabled for client side traffic. All my devices (that can) connect to the router/nodes at 2400Mbps, but for some reason all of my Samsung devices will not connect anything over 80Mhz (resulting in 1200Mbps connections). I transfer quite a bit of content between devices at home, and wonder if anyone else have noticed this and found a fix for it? I've tried disabling DFS channels, didn't work and also disabled all battery saving function on the Samsung devices and that didn't do anything either.

This may sound like a strange question, but what kind of data are you moving around on a phone that a 1200mbps connection is a "limitation" for you.
 
is that screen shot from the phone in question? or just a prove that wifi6 is broadcasting?
Anyways, compatibility rocks up on this one, I'd start there.

not strange, it's the standard question :)
Mainly high-res video/audio for editing etc. Can get very frustrating when workflows get paused due to delays in transferring content... Especially when I have limited time afterhours/weekends to spend on it when required.

it's a screenshot from one of the Samsung devices (Tablet). Not sure where you mean I should start, if you are referring to compatibility that's what I'm trying to figure out. There's no clear spec on Samsung devices around what's supported, but there seem to be some indication that Samsung (for a while now) should be able to utilize 2x2 160Mhz 5g channels. Would be great if anyone can confirm if they are able to establish a 1200Mbps+ connection on a Samsung device with Wifi 6 (Tablet or Phone).

Fair play.. just can't think I'd ever be phased by 1.2gbps vs 2.4gbps on a phone as I'd much rather be pushing high speed data transfers and editing on a real PC but each to their own.

But I have a feeling you're dealing with some stupid Samsung restriction relating to region settings, not sure you're going to be able to get around it on a permanent basis.

So to give a little more context - the point is to get it to my pc from mobile for the main editing. The issue is, DJI (especially for action cameras) do not develop an app for Windows, and certain things like colour profile editing is so much easier on the DJI app. I also use my phone/tablet as backup as it's quick to transfer form the cameras on-the-go. I could plug in my devices and transfer that way, wireless just makes it easier as I already have the investment and I can start transferring before getting to my pc where it's ultimately needed. Obviously, the realised speeds are almost never perfect, but if I can negotiate 2400Mbps, I might be able to break 1Gbps transfer speeds which massively helps. Hope that clarifies better for you.

I get it.. no worries :) Just an each to their own type of thing, we all use tech in different ways and for different reasons.

If the speed is a huge thing for you, you may be better suited getting a non-Samsung device that support Wifi6 for your DJI workflow though.

I think they technically are capable, but if Samsung region locks them for some daft reason in the firmware, you'll be SOL

send us the specs of the devices let's help you. Let's just say this, if your device could do 160Mhz it would. Samsung doesn't do the dirty on one contrary to belief.
1200Mbps is the combined effort of the wireless 2x2MIMO @ 80Mhz but that is not taking into account channel congestion noise etc. so if your wifi can do 1200Mbps it's normal 1200/2 = 600 theoretically

S23 Ultra:
  • Wi-Fi
    802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax 2.4G+5GHz+6GHz, HE160, MIMO, 1024-QAM

S9 Tab ultra:
  • 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax 2.4G+5GHz+6GHz, HE160, MIMO, 1024-QAM
Wifi:
Wifi is meshed (dedicated bachaul channel), Asus zenwifi - xt12 x 2 linking upstairs and downstairs, branching out to 2 x xt8, 2 x xd6, and 2 x xd4's placed in line with traffic and usage requirement. Fronthaul 160Mhz channels available on xt12 and xd6's. PC wired into main xt12 router.

Laptop connects to all nodes with 160Mhz fronthaul available at 2401Mbps, all Samsung devices max 1200Mbps, including the main router whether next to it or 5 meters away.
 
I do, got really excited there for a second! Switched off on both bakchaul and front, forgot the wifi, restarted and reconnected. Still 1200

The Samsung S25 Ultra would connect on 160 MHz at 2400 Mbps, but if there was any interference from airports or weather stations, the channel would evacuate and it would drop to 80 MHz or 1200 Mbps. After upgrading my home network to Wi-Fi 7, which has preamble puncturing, the channel width never drops below 320 MHz on the 6 GHz network and 160 MHz on the 5 GHz network.

Interesting, thanks for that. Ive tried switching dfs (channels) which still allows 160Mhz channels, and it didn't resolve the issue. For some reason the Samsung devices seem to not like 160Mhz channels... When you used to drop from 160 to 80, was that router side or client? Did you do anything (when there wasn't dfs interferemce) to get the s25 to connect to 160Mhz channels? I reset my entire network today, only changed to 160 and tested again. It will not accept 160, even when it's available. ChatGpt has had serious fights me saying that it's definitely not Samsung or the device models 😆
 
My S25 connected just fine on 160 MHz in channel 48 configuration. Technically, WiFi 6 is still 5 GHz unless you use WiFi 6E. So, 160 MHz on 5G is two entire blocks of 80 MHz channels, which will use DFS channels above channel 48.

The channel evacuation will occur on the router. You will likely see it in the logs. The routers are forced to comply with regulations to prevent interference with radar systems.

Since I have several weather radars and airports around me, I eventually just upgraded to a WiFi 7 router. I have the TP-Link Archer BE800.
