wifi acces point vs repeater

My chromecast can't seem to pick up a good quality network signal in my bedroom even though my phone and tablet can.
So to fix this I have either been looking at putting an access point in my room (already have a network cable there) or to just put in a wifi repeater.

At the moment the upstairs of my house has the main router & the downstairs lounge has an access point to provide wifi downstairs (my room is downstairs as well, can only get signal from downstairs network). Not sure how another network can affect the overall signal quality of the other 2 networks?

What do you guys recommend?

thanks will look into it, do you think this will put out a stronger signal from the same spot then my Trendnet tew 638APB i see my trendnet only does 2ghz like the UBIQUITI UNIFI.

Distance wise my downstairs network is only probably 10m from the chromecast, but has to pass through about 3/4 walls to get to me.
