Hi all.

Not sure if I am posting this in the correct thread.

I am struggling to wrap my head around a solution to my problem.

My fibre was recently installed, but having thick walls in my home it fails to send WIFI signal to the rest of the house therefore I decided to use my old TPlink W9660 router as a bridge/extender.

I have configured everything correctly ( I hope) and I ran a cable from the primary router to the W9660(extender) and it gives off signal at 20-25mbps which I am happy with. The issue I am having though is that the connection is not stable and not constant. Every couple of minutes it dips/disconnects for a few seconds and I am not sure why.

When I took the the cable(from primary router) out of the W9660 and plugged it directly into my laptop it was stable and worked perfectly, therefore it has lead me to believe that the issue is the W9660.It I cannot pinpoint what exactly,as all the settings seem correct and when it works,it works fine. Any ideas what could be causing this instability?

Sorry for the long post, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Regards

The TP-Link TD-W9960 is xDSL modem.
  • Connect Port 1 to primary router via Ethernet cable
  • Factory reset the TP-LINK
  • Set a static IP address in the same subnet as the primary router
  • Disabled DHCP
  • Set the WiFi SSID & Password & WPA2 settings same as primary router

You could also try to use LAN4/WAN
Reset the TD-W9960
Connect port-4 to your primary router

Did you end up sorting this out?

When running two routers, please ensure that DHCP server needs to be disabled on the W9660, also please ensure that the W9660 has a static IP address, that won't conflict with gateway IP of the main gateway for your network.
