How do one enable/use wifi calling on a S8 on Vodacom? Cellphoe signal at our house is very bad and I frequently miss cell calls.

No. Cant finf any settings related to wifi calling on my phone. Also not on my wife's S9.
Are the phones Vodacom issued phones with the Vodacom firmware on it? If so, check if your Volte indicator is on like I asked in my previous post. The S8 should have wifi calling available according to this, but it has to have been a phone bought from Vodacom with Vodacom firmware on it.

There is no Volte indicator.

I'm not sure if it is a Vodacom issued phone. Bought it new directly from a cell store (long time ago) and being on prepaid since then. Is it possible to change to Vodacom firmware, and if so, will it work then?

Make sure your Volte is enabled.

If it is, then it means either your phone was not issued by Vodacom and does not have the Vodacom firmware on it. If your phone was issued by Vodacom and the Volte is enabled on your handset, but you do not get the Volte indicator next to your signal level on your home screen, then it means your sim is not provisioned for Volte. If it is not provisioned then it means your VoWiFi also wont work. You need to then contact 082111 or go into a Vodacom store and request Volte to be enabled on your sim.

There is no Volte setting in my settings under Mobile Networks:

This is the firmware (latest OTA):

Ok. So what can I do to make this work?
Download the XFV firmware from sammobile or another reputable site and flash it with Odin. Half an hour later you will be up and running if the services was also provisioned on your sim. I have done this on an S8 and also from XFV to XFA (this is the really tricky one) on an S9. Your phone will factory reset though so be sure to backup on cloud or with the Smart Switch Windows app. This does not trip your knox. There is a full guide online on how to do it on I think xda developers. I just followed the guide and had no issues. If you get stuck I will gladly assist

This really my last resort. The xfa firmware seems to be from MTN. MTN also supports volte and wifi calling, so why does it not work when on Vodacom?

Vodacom Volte and Vowifi only work on Vodacom software. MTN, Cell C and Telkom all use XFA so all their Volte and Vowifi will work on XFA software. I think you may even get some like Cell C to work on the Vodacom XFV but not the other way around. Dunno why it has to be so diffucult but it is.

You can also try to go into the service menu by pressing volume up, down and power on startup and then doing a full restore to factory settings from the service menu. After that keep the Voda sim in and and on startup it should display a message that says the likes of a new CSC has been detected from the sim do you want to change? Then you choose yes. This might work since XFA software is multi CSC and XFV is also contained in the multi CSC.

XFA on the S8 is not enabled on MTN unfortunately.

You are going to need to use other firmware to get VoLTE enabled. I flashed a custom firmware on my S8 to get VoLTE working with MTN.

You need to flash official XFV to get Vodacom VoLTE and VoWifi enabled.

Thanks for all the help.

Does the XFV firmware have any downsides compared to XFA, e.g. additional bloatware, etc?

Also, in the 0din instructions it say:

"Add each file to its respective field in Odin v3.14.4. Use CSC_*** if you want to do a clean flash or HOME_CSC_*** if you want to keep your apps and data."

Will it be possible to change from XFA to XFV doing a HOME_CSC flash, i.e. to keep all data?

Firstly ,
on all my XFV devices ( Notes 5,8 ,9 10 + ,20 Ultra 5 G S8+ , i have no bloatware .
I have uninstalled "the few" that came with it .
Apart , from the Splash screen /Boot and the My Vodacom app ( to manage my devices etc ) i have no Vodacom bloatware on my devices .

Secondly ,
For Volte to work, your device has to be Volte /WI-FI calling capable .?
If your device firmware has WI-FI calling ,it does not mean that you can just toggle a switch and use Wi-Fi calling .

Important/bottom line .....
Your Volte is controlled/managed by your service provider....in this case Vodacom .
I have checked my Note 8 ...as a example ..and it does not have Volte .
(Also my S8 + )
So i presume your device is in the same "boat "
Doubt, if Service provider can or will enable it ??

No Volte ..no Wi-Fi calling ,
even though ,you have a Wi-Fi calling toggle , in quick setting ,it wont work.???
Rooting your device ?
Personally ,i really think you wasting your time ..it won't work .??
It still has to be enable by Service Provider. !!!

This is how i enabled Wi-Fi calling on my Note 10+ and my Note 20 Ultra 5 g
No root !!
I have Volte enabled via Sim card /service Provider .
Enabled Airplane mode .
Enable WIFI .
Enable Wi-Fi calling toggle/setting .
You should see the Wi-Fi calling icon

Please note ,
if the Wi-Fi calling icon , does not appear first time ,
just toggle relevant settings, once or twice .
It should appear .
See screenshots
Good luck

Got it working after flashing the xfv firmware, but required full factory reset even using the home_csc.

Wifi calling only working when in airplane mode. My lte signal is very weak, but phone still use volte rather than wifi calling. Even when I force 2g/3g only, it will make call via cellular rather than using wifi.

So the whole wifi calling is a bit pointless for me.

For me again, it could be worth it....
if i want to use it.!
I have a reasonably good Lte signal and
the latest handset./Firmware etc.
So this does help.

As far as I'm aware, wifi calling can only be
used in airplane mode.
At one stage (a few years back) , i could use it
without, selecting Airplane mode.
Vodacom then change it, that it
could only be enabled in Airplane mode.

Overall, i have tested it quite a bit.
Voice calls, sms etc. No issues.
Works fine.
However I'm on a contract
with enough, free voice minutes, sms and data
so no need, to really switch to wifi calling etc.
For me it's a good extra option to have.
Good luck.
