I live in a small village in the Eastern Cape.
There is no fiber here.
But I have been getting speeds of about 35 -50Mbps with my Vodacom WIFI router for the last few years which is adequate for my needs.
About 10 days ago it dropped dramatically. Now it's between 1.5-4Mbps and I never changed a thing.
However if I use my phone as a hotspot with cellular data I get between 50-75Mbps ! Surely the router and the phone connect to the same tower?
I've tried a different router with no luck. Reset all my adapters. Same thing. Tried a new PC. Same thing.
The only thing I haven't done is phone Vodacom because that's a whole nightmare on it's own.
Anyone care to venture an explanation? Or a solution?

Perhaps you have an older CAT4 router but your phone is perhaps classified as a CAT6 (or even more modern) device?

It is also possible that your phone is capable of connecting to more LTE frequency bands than the router can.

If your router has external antenna connectors, try connecting those now. (Because it seems Vodacom has recently changed something at the base station/stations in your vicinity.)
