Hi guys

I'm wondering if anyone can help me out. I think this will be a tricky one for the brainiacs here.

I built a pc for my little brother. The last component, which is the wifi is giving me problems.

The adapter is the asus pce n53.

So, I installed it into the 2nd pcie slot on the MSI Z77A-G43. However, the ping was erratic.

I thought maybe the antennas brushing up against the display cable were the problem, so I switched the gpu to the 2nd slot, and the adapter to the 1st slot. I installed a fresh copy of windows 10. I downloaded the latest drivers from the website. The ping was still bad. Then I found this: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1774186/asus-pce-n53-working-slowly.html - and on the best answer selected; I made those changes to the registry. So this is essentially how my adapter is now configured. This brought the ping down to around 50 with the odd one jumping up. The internet works, but when I open Steam, and then Dota 2. It struggles to connect to the game client. If it does actually connect, and it goes into a game, the ping is relaxed, and suddenly jumps up, then steam loses connection; and the icon on the bottom right shows no internet for a few seconds.

I wonder if it is a problem to do with the router... The router is TP-Link something something [maybe wd430 or something, can update later] (issued by Telkom end 2013). So I logged onto the router, and it appears that it is operating on channel 1; and it is set to 802.11n only. Oh, I further changed my registry as per the link provided to only work on 802.11n and it seemed to help a little more.

The internet works fine for one tp link wifi desktop; 3 laptops. 4 cellphones, 1 tablet, and an iPad.

Please help!

**: Oh, I downloaded a program inSSIDer. It appeared that there was some interruption from having it too close to the router. I moved it away; and it rates the connection 100.

***: I have uninstalled everything. Removed the adapter. Installed the software. Installed the adapter. No fix. It actually got worse. Had to change the registry again.

I've tried right next to it, and I've tried with 2 walls in between; where there is another pc; with only one small antenna - which works well. This pce n53 has two big antennas. It sits on 4/5 bars; and shows 270 / 300mbps

One thing I noticed; when installing with the CD, it installs an asus utility. When installing the windows 10 driver, it does not install the utility.

My best workable connection so far is installing the driver with the utility and updating the windows 10 driver.

So what I noticed was, in the utility, it was using AES. Could this be a problem?
Another thing was that it was set in 'infrastructure mode'. Could this be a problem?

and, are there ways of changing these settings through windows?

Thanks in advance.
