WIFI Hotspot

There is no chance is valhalla that telkom would give permission to u to use what is theirs by law unfortunately.
who cares though[:D]
baaaaah just wanna have a local mesh network that would b so sw337

New service by Telkom broadband speeds up to 5kbps for only R1k a month. heheh

Huh? Dunno about two rights making a left in directional terms: a left will cause you to go west, whereas with two rights you'll go south! Unless you're talking boxing - a good pugilist will make and deliver a good left hook with 2 right jabs! [:D][8D][:o)]

rather than go normal internet routes how bout we all hook up with pigeons
i know this guy he can get really really fast ones an if u give him an extra tenner hell put some racing stripes on em.
then when we get em to fly between us delivering messages or data.
just imagine how fast itll be. plus u dont have a cap(a cap for your pigeon can be bought optionally for 2 rand a cap).[:D]

"Does anybody know of a local company that actually sells 802.11 compatible Antenna's in the range of 15db and upwards ?"

if you ct I can get you one.

..- dot dot dash ;)

I was talking about Springbok Security I was talking about a complex with 25 flats were people stay inclosed in a 6 foot wall and barbwire.

I say Lets burn them

hmmm, who cares if its illegal, what telkom is doing is an act against our right to have fast and cheap internet. The cost of doing anything here that requires a fast internet connection is way too high. ADSL is not the "best" me remember when telkom was pushing isdn as the newest technology, craps man isdn is crap old and adsl technology is also crap old, the crappest internet connection in europe and other places is adsl and it cost like 1% of our costs.

If you Love it let it go, if it comes back then it love you. If not hunt it down and kill it

well i have seen some miro products and the only thing thats probably worth buying is the antenna and the waterproof box. u can pick up the AP for less at some of the local CPT distributors.

Is there anyone here in bellville in making also a wifi point and linking together???

Would be nice to do the internet access thing seeing as I also stay in a block of flats which makes that part of the idea legal.

Just imagine u had a whole suburb connected. I know in bellville there are a crap load of ppl who r lanners just like me and the change in lifestyle(cant believe it but i would lose even more of my social life) would be quite amazing. just imagine not having to wait for the weekend to play a game with ure buds on the lan.
Just have a central public domain where u can list ure games that u wanna play and ppl just join an go boss.

Or u could get ureself skype and use that to communicate with whoevers on the network.

sykpe will really make telkom MAD, them main problem with telkom is the send of voice communication through non telscum lines. This is where they are protected by law. IE skype is the bain in telkoms side.

Well i dont know how well skype works on a normal network seeing as how it was designed to work on the internet.
But im sure lan speak an some other programs can be sufficient to the task.
the kewl thing bout the mesh nets are the omni/bi story were u can have (if u set it up properly) a local hotspot with an bi/directional antenna connecting to a different hotspot(sometimes almost 20-30 k's away). would be interesting to see how telkom would react to the threat of say ten hotspots each stretched over a 2km radius thats a crap load of residential ppl that can use their pc to communicate with the ppl that they know. an considering most ppl just phone locally to a ppl that live relative close to them that can seriously impact into telkom's revenue.

Though Telkom on the other hand is moving its business model more into data than normal telephony but the simple fact that for instance cape towns revenue gathered for normal fixed line rentals and call charges amount to like 300 rand one month would put a smile on myadsl forum member. and probaly the rest of the country

well considering that the meshnet is very difficutl to take down, the antennas can be made to look like normal stuff on the roof and me thinks that many overlapping signals comming in from different directions is also had to pinpoint the main connection or source of the signal, and with the encryptin and key chemes on the wireless routers them sevles this makes eavs dropping also very difficult. AND having a court case against 10000ppl wont go dwon well with the judges in the courts.

armitage, whereabouts in bellville are u? i'm near durbanville. Vygeboom to be exact.

"Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness, experiencing itself subjectively. There's no such thing as death - life is only a dream - and we're the imagination of ourselves.” – Bill Hicks

hmm, isnt Vygeboom in sonstraal, isnt there a hill in the way???. Does any one know if wi-fi is unlicensed or is there some sort of license attached. Cause unlicensed bands are unrestricted, ie the 27mhz band lets u send voice and even data" thou at a VERY slow rate", thus telscum CAN DO NOTHING TO U.........HAHAHA..........cause me thinks that the laws appling to this so abit vague. Also me thinks that the laws contradict one another.
